Description Since crossovers are very popular, I have decided to do a few of my own! this time with Merida and some of the Disney classics we all know and love!

This particular series of mine will be under my Disney Princess Art Collection, but the Series will be titled: Merida's Mischief (since she pokes around in other stories besides her own lol)

this one was one of my more serious ideas b/c both Ariel and Merida visit a witch (in this picture it uses Ursula's cauldron) to give them a spell to change their fates. And they both happen to be red-heads with equal amount of desire for adventure!

they really are! 2 redheads=dynamite!

It's just nice to see a comparison of how Disney has come a long way in terms of animation and story line since little mermaid

Okay, in terms of ranking these princesses, I have some observations that tip the scales for Merida and against Ariel.

1. The Witch in Brave looked much less imposing than Ursula did.
2. Merida wasn't lusting after anyone she had barely met (to be fair though, she was trying to hypnotize her mother).
3. Merida spent most of the movie emotionally connecting with her mother. If "The Little Mermaid" had focused on Ariel's dad, I might still like it.
4. By the end of the movie, Merida learned that she couldn't fully control her own fate, but her mother learned not to force her to marry anybody else. Compare that to Ariel learning absolutely nothing worthwhile from her reckless decision.

I personally see Ariel as an early prototype for strong Disney heroines. She had spunk and a desire to accomplish her goals without anyone's help, but the problems I just stated dragged her down in my opinion.

Thankfully, Disney saw what worked and what didn't with Ariel, polished that up, and Belle was an excellent role model. I actually own dolls of Belle (in a ballarina outfit) and Merida.

I can see your perception and Disney is an evolutionary empire. It had a lot of changes to make since Little Mermaid to Brave, but when I originally came up with the drawing I was merely looking at surface similarities. Most of my crossovers with Merida have been more of similarities that are upfront. I definitely agree with you on the differences between the two, but I think both films represent Disney's progress in both storyline and animation especially and how things are clearly more thought out when forming the story line, giving it both maturity for adults and a simple understanding fairy tale to kids.

This is a combination of two scenes of what I was thinking of when I saw Brave.

glad you thought so too! it's funny how disney can be cynicial that way and still keep the distinction of magic between their movies

This reminds me of another thing Ariel and Merida have in common, they're hot but they're not to bright.

Well, they are young and act out irrationally when they are upset. I wouldn't call them not bright, but certainly acting on emotion rather than rationality. They're teenagers after all lol
that's more of the psychological aspect of their situations hahaha
