Whoooo~ It's finally done; it took so long!
This is the first set of three of my personified US states! They are in order from date of admittance to the union, starting with Delaware!

All comments, questions, and concerns are welcome!
If you have any questions about the characters or designs, please feel free to ask!

Notes:
DE: Delaware is known as the Blue Hen State after a special breed of chickens. In colonial times, these chickens were used in cock fights and were regarded as one of most ferocious in battle. They became connected with DE when, during the Revolutionary War, one of the captains of the DE company units was known to frequently stage fights using a breed of blue hen. It was also applied to the state during the Rev. War because of the strength of their units. Another one of DE's nicknames is the peach state, because of its abundance of peach trees in the past.

PA: That's the Liberty Bell and the statue of William Penn in Philadelphia in the bg. PA's state flower is the mountain laurel.

NJ: NJ is well known for it's gambling revenues, especially Atlantic City. I wanted to put something about the NJ Turnpike in the bg, but all I could come up with was a toll gate :/ In the background is a tiny Jersey Devil looking like it's trying to hitchhike or something... The picture of the creature on the Wikipedia page is quite frightening! The state flower is violets.

GA: Georgia is known as the peach state, but it also grows plenty of peanuts, earning it the title of Goober State! That's supposed to be Atlanta or something in the bg.

CT: Nutmegs and the Charter Oak! One interesting idea for where CT got its connection to nutmegs comes from a story about a merchant from CT selling barrels of fake, wooden nutmegs mixed in with real ones to the people of Charleston! Penny-pinching till the end, huh CT? -w-
The story of the Charter Oak is that when King James II sent Edmund Andros to take away CT's colonial charter to merge it with the other colonies into the Dominion of New England, one man went and hid it in the nook of this tree. CT was forced to join the Dominion anyway, but the English never did get their hands on that charter!

MA: MA is well known for it's obsession with sports! It's also known for its cranberries and love of cod (which is what those fish in the bg are supposed to be.)

MD: Known for its crabs, especially the blue ones. There are also clams and oysters. I got the design idea for the Ft. McHenry from Maryland's new license plate commemorating the war of 1812 attack on Ft McHenry. (It took me so long driving behind those new license plates to finally figure out that the picture was of the fort!) I was supposed to put fireworks in the bg, but I forgot, so just pretend like they're there lol

SC: Although GA is known as the Peach State, SC actually produces the 2nd highest amount of peaches, behind only California! SC is known as the Palmetto State (a type of palm tree). During the Revolutionary War, South Carolinians constructed a fort made out of Palmetto and successfully repelled the oncoming British fleet. It's said that their cannonballs bounced right off of the fort! Colonial SC's main crops were rice and indigo. Charleston was one of the major ports on the Atlantic, making South Carolina one of the richest colonies, if not one of the richest places in the world. Many types of flowers that are now staples of Southern gardens, including camellias, crepe myrtles, and azaleas were first imported trough Charleston.

NH: The mountains of NH are a very popular tourist destination in the fall for its colorful foliage. NH's motto is the intensely worded "Live free or Die." Its state fruit is the pumpkin. Before its collapse in 2003, the Old Man in the Mountain was the most recognized symbol from NH. But even though he's gone, his spirit lives on in the heart and soul of every New Hampshirite~! (maybe).

VA: The first permanent English settlement in the New World was at Jamestown, VA in 1607. Virginia Hams are popular country hams for celebrations (my Grandmother used to swear by them~) VA's state bird and flower are the cardinal and the dogwood.

NY: A view of the Adirondacks is on the left with NYC on the right. The beaver is the state animal because of the early dutch fur-trading settlements that grew into modern day NY. The state flower is the rose, and the state fruit is the apple.

NC: Ever since colonial times, tobacco has been the most important crop in NC. Lately, NC's economy has grown much more diverse, but tobacco is still a major part of its culture and agriculture. His pose is sort-of taken from the opening of the Andy Griffith Show, which is the most famous show to come out of NC and will certainly never stop airing here. The show's town of Mayberry is based off of the real town of Mount Airy, which, being completely elated to have relations to the greatest NC show ever, has hired many actors to play Don Knotts' character, Barney, and walk around town to entertain tourists. The Smoky Mountains/Blue Ridge Mts are the most visited National Park in the US. The state bird and flower are also the cardinal and dogwood.

RI: RI has always been and will always be connected to the sea. Providence was a major port in the triangular trade to trade molasses to incoming ships for slaves and sugar cane. The large-ish-for-its-size population of slaves during the time of the Revolutionary War set RI up to create the first military unit in the US to enlist black soldiers for combat. Its state flower and fruit are the violet and the Rhode Island Greening apple.

VT: Vermont is also known for its colorful fall foliage, but its state nickname is The Green Mountain State, named after Ethan Allen's rough-talking band of fighters known as the Green Mountain Boys. They fought against NY's control over the area and were instrumental in the Revolution, capturing Ft. Ticonderoga and attacking Quebec. Ethan Allen was such a jerk towards Benedict Arnold (who deserved equal credit for his leadership) by saying that he and his men did all the work that Arnold bitterly turned his back on the American cause and became the fail-traitor we know today. Vermont is also known for its maple syrup and its state flower is the red clover.

KY: KY is known for bluegrass (both the musical style and the actual grass) and horse racing. It has one of the highest rates of gun ownership in the US and is the second largest grower of tobacco. Its state flower is the goldenrod and its state bird is the cardinal. (Can you see a trend that states that were carved out of VA territory have cardinals as state birds? VA, NC, KY, WV, OH, IN, and IL all have them! )

TN: Known for its music scene, especially in Nashville and Memphis. Its state mammal is the raccoon and the state flower is the iris.

New Englander here (eight years in Massachusetts). I love New Hampshire's expression. The state motto is 'Live Free or Die', no...it's really 'Live Freeze then Die'

I'm from Kentucky and you've got it pretty much down. But you should have maybe give him a Basketball. We're HUGE basketball fans with one of (if not the) best college Basketball teams in the country. (That being the UK Wildcats) we love basketball so much that some people call in sick from work because they lose a game! (We're also home to the world famous Louisville Slugger baseball bats. So maybe a baseball bat in the background would be a good addition.)  But with that being said you did a very good job!

Umm... I'm not gonna lie, I love this, (I have a weakness for state OCs) but I live in New Jersey, (born and raised, thank you!) and gambling isn't really a huge part of it... I mean, sure, there's Atlantic City, but that's only a very small part of the state. What about all our natural venues? There's a reason why we're called the Garden State! Or maybe you could have thrown a wink to our boardwalks? Sorry if this comes across as nagging, but having been picked on for most of our statehood (I love you, New York, but why you gotta be so mean?) us New Jerseyans get a little sensitive when we see our state being mis-represented...

Though I gotta say, that was a nice little nod to the Jersey Devil.

Well people have different designs for characters and I have to say it's a little annoying for someone with the same OC to go "well I'm not like that at all!"

North Carolina is just so perfect. I live there, and that's pretty much NC in a nutshell. Dogwood trees, mountains, tobacco, Mayberry, fishing and tress all over the place... and yep, People here tend to dress pretty casual as well. In fact, little NC looks just like someone I used to know...

You got Massachusetts spot-on. We're pretty obsessed with sports here. Well, personally, I'm not, but if you walk down the street wearing a Yankees jersey (the Boston Red Sox's arch rival) when there's a baseball game, you'll get hassled. People also glare a lot here, and you're supposed to mind your own business; it's always hard for me to walk through the city, smiling at everyone and getting a 'WFT' eye roll back.

It's things like these that make me feel special for being from a little New England state, and like I'm part of something big XD

I love how there's very little conversation (if any) of Vermont! Being a Vermonter, I know that many people down south, or west at all...don't know that Vermont is that state between NH and NY....

Maybe adding something about Champ would've pleased most of us here...but the maple tree is good enough!
