This is a wonderful piece and I can entirely relate to the things it says. I'm also quite certain my mother's gotten that look from me on MORE than one occasion, great capture of emotion!

i was wondering why this looked familar: I saw this when it was on exhibition at the Gosford art gallery/Japanese Gardens. I must of stared at this for ages when i first saw it!

Thanks mate, it was in the Gosford art prize I live on the Central Coast and because it was ready early for the Moran I gave it an airing at Gosford. I had to do another for the Archibald so got Moran done first.
It's good to know it caught your attention.

Well, I'm glad an ADULT knows how us teens feel.
I really adore this one.
Hopefully it wins a prize. It should.
I wish I had seen this sooner. Then I could have used it in the play we're doing at school (with your permission of course. >.>.

Thats a big question and it very involved.
The very fine linnen was oil primed 6 times with a thick primer using a piece of cardboard then the subject was painted in a tradional way using solid colour, no glazing I wanted her to have a flatt finish so no oil or medium were used.
Then the background was painted with a home made black which had no black paint in it, there is very little black in this whole painting. The colour was mixed with Blue, Crismon and Green to get as dark as possable and then mixed with a very thick medium.
This was painted on another 6 times untill the background was heavy and glossy.
The lettering was painted on in a blue gray silver metalic and when dry was glazed over in a blue many times untill the lettering receided to where I wanted it.
So the background is hi gloss and the subject is matt, this has the effect of her standing out off the canvas.
