Description
This is a portrait I painted of my stepdaughter for a very big Portrait prize in Australia The Moran Portrait Prize which was selected and will be hung on Tue. 13th March 2007 there were over 500 entries and only 30 get selected.Please visit my web site www.graemebalchin.com

I'm an 18yo in Canberra, and honestly, the first thing that crossed my mind when I saw this was, "I think my sister has a dress like that..."
So kudos for getting the current Australian teen fashion right, haha.
Other than that... what can I say but stunning? The attitude of the pose, the writing on the wall... it's an extremely good reflection of the angst of teenagers.
Is it hanging in the National Portrait Gallery or elsewhere? If it's at the NPG I'd be tempted to go look at it...

It's very rewarding and rather differant I have two other daughters. My teacher told me you cant paint till you have been through hell, I'm starting to understand what he ment.

amazing portrait! her expression and the words behind her go so well, and are totally what I was like a couple years back as teenager, and to honest probably still am to a certain extent! haha. good luck in the competition
