Description Screams and smoke stirred Ichabalac from the depths of sleeps.

“What’s happening?” he said, still somewhat dazed. His wife, Ocadopa, held their infant daughter in her arms, the child’s limbs and tail squirming

“I don’t know…” she said. Ichabalac sprung to his feet and dashed to their hut’s entrance, but it was as he feared: men and women ran to and fro in panic, the sounds of battle and death hanging over them.

“It must be the Jee,” Ichabalac said. “Those scoundrels!”

The Jee tribe had been poking and prodding the lands and villages of the Zuazubo for months since the bloodthirsty Ocho had seized murdered his way to Chieftain. But, for them to attack outright? Madness! There would be war now, no doubt about it. He reached for his spear and shield.

“Take Chaau and go,” Ichabalac said. “Hide in the forest, do not return. If you can, head for Anize Town.”

“But, what of you?” Ocadopa said. “I cannot leave you…”

Ichabalac cut off her protest with a kiss.

“Please, don’t,” he whispered. “Go to Anize. I will find you there.”

They left the hut and parted: Ocadopa heading west, Ichabalac east - toward the sounds of battle and the wisps of smoke billowing from burning huts. It did not take long to find his enemy: a Jee warrior wielding a battle axe appeared from behind a hut.

He shouted a challenge to Ichabalac and their duel began.

Another repost from elsewhere, this is the first picture I drew of Ichabalac as a properly named character.  I sketched, inked, and colored this back in October of last year.  This is WAY before I drew up the reference sheet, so Ichabalac is missing a few of his defining detais, like the scars and the broken spike.  Like "Ichabalac Sneaks By an Enemy", the original version of this contained male nudity - I've touched it up to allow for a PG rating here on DeviantArt.

The vignette above is something I wrote up just before originally posting this last fall and is the piece that first introduces not just Ichabalac but his wife and daughter, Ocadopa and Chaau, too.

Thanks!    I've liked this picture from the start, I pretty much consider it the beginning of my current style of artwork.

Wow, you remind me of me when I've uploaded my first artworks from the beginning and then I've improved my current style of artwork as of now.

Very interesting!

the story is fun to read, especially. I you feel the tension and relate to the characters very quickly, a short snippet though it is.

you make me really want to root for Ichabalac and cheer him on. I can see him kicking some jee tail left and right!

Thanks, I'm glad you like it! I actually consider myself primarily a writer, drawing is something I do more as a hobby. I'm really happy that my work is good enough for othets to like!
