Description
Pencils for a project in the works featuring Lucretia de Loccia, a character created by *ProfessorBlues ... a cybernetic robotics genius who suffered a bit of an accident. This one I knew was going to be a supper fun one to work on. All he had to mention to me was triple amputee and he had my undivided attention.
More to come as it comes.
EDIT 08/01
Finished inking the piece with my spankin' great new pens. God I love these new pens.
I decided to use both my black and sepia colors on this one. Originally I was just going to do the main figure in black and the background in sepia, but when i started working, the wild idea struck me to work the flesh parts and a few other areas of Lucy over in sepia to give them a more flesh like appearance from the get go.
I really like the end result and it makes me want to get these pens in a lot more colors. I think i could get some interesting effects out of them.
Next up, some nice colors and happy trees, yay!

It is my firm belief that happy trees will one day take over the world. They just sit there, pretending to be all happy and in the sun, but they're just biding their time, waiting for that perfect moment and then they will STRIKE and their fury will bring about a bloodbath like no ones ever dreamed!
I love the two different colors in this, the wonderful thing about your stuff is it's a great work of art as pencils, as inks, and as colors. You could stop at just one step and it would be perfection.

Well, I belive he's waiting on an actual painting, so i can't stop ... though i would have to agree... on this piece the inks seem almost like a compleat work to me. There's a part of me that did not even want to put paint on it for fear for ruining the look I had achieved with the ink.
I might just have to move this scrap over to an actual gallery as an additional work... especially with as many fav's as it's gotten... and it's just a scrap!

Well, to insure that there wasn't any trauma or tearing of the flesh due to weight and use of the cybernetic limbs at their fullest capacity in a stressful environment, they had to be anchored to the frame of the trunk (such as the hip joint in the legs and the shoulder bones and ribs in the case of the arm).
If only the lower thigh and leg had been constructed and attached, then the limb would be frigile due to weight limitations imposed upon it to keep from tearing off or stressing the flesh and blood muscils of the hip. Likewise, it would only be able to function as a normal prostetic replacment would with no additinal modifications as such would put too much stress on the flesh and blood portion of the leg and it's tenious connection to the cybernetic leg.
By sacrificing the entire femur bone and hooking the legs up to the hip (and replacing a lot of the musculature in the groin and hip area) and extending the some of the outer structure of the leg up and over the remnants of her thigh muscles and nervous system, she not only insures a strong connection that won't easily separate or tear in physically high stress situations, but she could also enhance the legs durability and performance (run at high speeds, jump long distances, and all tat good stuff that make cybernetics and cyborgs funky fun).
As the professor mentioned, I did take some liberties with his design of her legs though... I didn't want it to be metal and ceramic from the waist down (though I'm sure theres a lot going on under the skin). For the purposes of the image, a bit more flesh was needed while still giving the impression that a lot of work had been done on her legs and pelvis area, but keeping as much flesh as possible

Sounds pretty complicated...

Not quite.
Graver's interpretation is the biomechanics hooks into her nervous system a bit higher up. they've always covered her from the waist down.

Seconded 'Daaaamn!' There's so much of the different textures that I need to learn from this. I guess I'll just have to fave it until I get that good. Should be quite a long time. ; )

As am I... as am I. I'm just glad I finally got to do some all proper like! Yay!

Gosh, I love how much your work tells a story and all the details. Very cool that you went with both scenes but I really love her in the wheelchair working feverishly on the robotics. So awesome.

Thanks, I am a whore for details... and with my new .005 pens, oh, the details! Though I'm not totally to blame for the scenes. ProfessorBlues pretty much wrote the background scenes up for me to illustrate... and then made me do them both

Yay for happy trees!
But wow this looks seriously grate. I love how there's a background telling a story too

Thanks! In the original idea writeups that ProfessorBlues sent me, it was just those two backgrounds... and as seperate ideas. I felt they needed another layer and added Lucy up front (mostly 'cause I really wanted to draw her cybernetics) and then ProfessorBlues had the wild idea that, hey, why should he have to chose which background to go with when he could have it all and... well, this is the result. A good bit of work, but I'm starting to really dig it.

yeah! why should he have to choose!
Choosing is too hard! When you can have it all!

Daaaaamn!!
The detail where her flesh meets the cybernetics is just TIGHT.
And she's got that LOOK that says "I've experienced more pain than you can imagine, so don't screw with me."
/em praise

I used to do a lot of drawings and doodles of flesh stretched over wire, gear, and all manner of machine... it's just been a while since I was able to do something like that again, though not to the extent I used to. She'd be horribly mangled if I did, and I'm sure she's only supposed to be half mangled
Very glad it meets with your approval so far

he wanted to know which of the two background scenes I wanted... I was like, hey... why not both?
As you can see... the picture tells a pretty detailed story... I'll have to rewrite "Biomechanics" to post along with it, it needs cleaning up.
