I'm pleased with it... but it was a pain in the ass to paint. Layer. Let dry. Layer. Let dry. Etc. Etc.

That's my fav way to work with oils is glazing! I usually have 3 or 4 paintings going at the same time and in different stages of drying. Then it's not such a pain.

I usually lack the patience for glazing even though I love the finished product.

And I love glazing, it's like meditation for me. And when I do wet into wet it always ends up a mess! lol And you make it work...viva la difference!
The trick is with glazing, you have like 5 different paintings going at once, as some are drying you work on another, and just keep rotating. Much fun

I'm usually happy with wet-on-wet although I sometimes get messy. In :thumb131135620: I ended up so frustrated with my brushes that I started using my fingers to get the smooth effect I was looking for (doesn't show up in the photo). If everything goes to hell I can also just strip it all off with thinner and a rag and start over.
I recently purchased a second easel so perhaps I'll give your multi-painting technique a try.
