Description
This nifty little script lets you add a "fav box" to your journal, so people canThis script is in BETA, which is why you can only record ONE journal for now. And also it lacks IP checking, so any one person can fave the journal as many times as they wish. And the stats are just that. A number. It's not an official count, nor does it add the journal to your favourites list. It just records the number of people who like your journal.
I'm going to release a public version of this. Users can set up their own 'Journal Fave" account, and can use this script on their page, without doing a single bit of work. Just sign up, add the HTML / CSS, and you're set. It will also have an extensive IP log system, so people can't fave more than once, and also a dA recognition system, so only people who are logged into dA can vote. If you're interested in helping me out with the public version of this, let me know and I'll set you up with all the necessary details.
Please folks, PLEASE. Read the install.txt before doing anything. If you still have troubles (and you know your PHP / MySQL) then note me. I'll help you out as best as I can.
Report bugs here, or by note, and I'll fix them up in Beta 2. And if you use this script, please let me know. I'd love to see it in action on other pages.
Make sure you read the FULL deviation description before downloading and stuff. This script isn't for everyone.. just yet

the public release will come soon. That way everyone can use it (ie. people with a subscription
) without installing anything, or doing anything other than signing up, and getting the code ;D

indeed it is. When the public version is released, it'll be a dA only thing, for people with subscriptions. I don't want this puppy going to MySpace

Thanks! I bet everyone will love the public version that's in progress. You just sign up on the page, and get your code, then you can put it in your journal, and have everyone fave it. It'll include a 'fave once' system, and code that will limit your box to dA, so nobody can mess with it ;D

Not one bit! Actually I'm not, as long as people get to see this, and get some inspiration from it, then my job is done..

Thanks! I'm hoping the public version of this script will do better. People just sign up, get their code, put it in their journal and it's all set to go. dA-only as well hopefully

You can try the public version now. No uploads, no database stuff, nothing. You just sign up and go. It's still in development though, so it will change (mostly behind the scenes, that's all).. if you're up for trying the public version, just note me and I'll let you know the details

haha i'd use it, but the problem is the traffic to my page is pretty dead so at the moment i don't have a need for it. Thanks for offering. perhaps one day i'll need it haha it is an awesome option after all!

Grayda In reply to child-prodigy [2006-12-19 12:43:53 +0000 UTC]
XD perhaps.. Mine's pretty dead too.. I only have one regular visitor, and that's my fanclub (which I feel I don't deserve), but somehow I got 4000 pageviews in 2 months, pushing me over 10,000. Very strange considering most of them were from unsubscribed people, and my articles are for subscribers only
But yeah if you ever want in, just say, or wait until the public version is released, then sign up on the site. Easy stuff ;D

I sure will when it comes out! haha of course you deserve a fanclub. you've given back to the community and it's their way of thanking you back. Yah, there's quite a bit of unsubscribed visitors. ^^ i've been one for years before signing up and even now i don't have much to post XD

It's finally been released! [link] <-- !
And I suppose I have, but being your average modest guy, I don't think I deserve one. And yeah I was an unsubscribed member until a few months back, when I decided to buy one, and I think I'll keep it up.. can't be writing CSS articles with an unsubscribed account
Thanks again

that's awesome i mean it's nice to use css and all and to have little thumbnails for previews...but it's not neccessarily. XD i guess you're right about you continuing so you can explain some of your CSS tutorials...

Well now I can't live without my thumbnails on the deviations page. I browse over them, check out what I like, and remove it all. Saves time, and effort. And it's good for clubs like designersCOUCH that submit tons of items on a regular basis..

And soon everyone will. I'm making this a public system, so people can sign up on the website, get a favebox and record upto 999 (maybe more) journals, with faveing restricted to dA (hopefully )

Since its out to the community, im'a say some thing now.... the fav box when you click it goes to another page that can get annoying lol..... and a bit premature.. I have improved it useing java browser functions and I have an active sample ready.Interested?
π: 0 β©: 1
Grayda In reply to NGxxxTolo [2006-12-20 23:14:05 +0000 UTC]
That would be fantastic! But is it dA compatible? Remember that we can't use Javascript in journals and stuff. And which page does it go to? If it goes to a blank page then back to your journal, that's how it's supposed to be, but if it goes back to the registration page, then that's a bug (if you clicked on the link from a dA page).
But if your sample is dA compatible, then send it through! I'm really interested
And if you ever stumble across a way to see if you're logged into dA from another website, I'd love to hear it. Right now I'm lost as to how to check if you're logged in (for favebox authentication and stuff)

NGxxxTolo In reply to Grayda [2006-12-21 03:20:06 +0000 UTC]
Humm.. to see if users are logged in from another location ;/ then again, having to know when they are online, that is possible of course lol, o.O, I know who can actually know how to do that,,, but keep working on it. I will let you know
π: 0 β©: 1
Grayda In reply to NGxxxTolo [2006-12-21 03:27:39 +0000 UTC]
Knowing that they are online is one thing, but I'm trying to "authenticate" users. For example if Billy wants a Favebox, he has to be logged into dA to get the Favebox. Or more realistically, if Billy faves John's journal, Billy's name will be added to the "Already fave'd" list. That's what I'm trying to do, and it's tricky.
Unless (idea!) we use the pasties code to somehow confirm that it's them. Then again that would be tricky too..
Back to teh drawing board

the fav button launches a separate window to the php, after it calls php script it goes right to the end βbottom* to get the java script to control browser, lol kinda no0bly, but its way better.
__
With the fav button:
//use[ target="_blank" ] to open new window, BTW Iβve never tested it no journal yet//
With php:
After ?>
Close Window
π: 0 β©: 2
Grayda In reply to NGxxxTolo [2006-12-21 03:20:55 +0000 UTC]
Good example, however in Firefox 2.0.0.1 it causes some VERY strange behaviour (and I assume in all tab-enabled browsers). The whole window gets resized to 110, which isn't good when you're working with tabs (as most Ff users do). You can however omit the resizeTo, and just open it in a new window (tab, whatever), and use window.close() to close it. But refreshing the original tab / window is something else, so that's why I've just used a simple location.href script:
location.href="http://";
which will send you back where you came from, and if you didn't come from anywhere (ie. you typed in the fave URL into the browser and pressed Go), then it will send you back to the register page, and the fave won't be recorded (as it didn't come from a deviantART page)
So I'll see what I can do about getting your script to work, and if I can, you'll get the credit for it
Thanks!

lol I suppose so.. There's a private beta of the favebox system going if you're interested in giving it a test. It's not perfect, but it works (just some database bugs to squash basically..). If you're interested, I'll whip you a note..
