Description Here's a multiform roadstriker used by the evil Axis terrorist group in the Mekton supplement "Operation Rimfire." I tell ya, designing a transformable car that doesn't look like it belongs amidst the Transformers is hard.

Here's a link to a colored image of the Badlander:

I dig the Mugen Caliber meets Mad Max elements of this design, and you do a much better job at keeping the cab enclosed and intact than most car-formers - nice work!

Those very adaptations can lead to very distinct design cues. Heh, it's not a bug if you make it a feature. πŸ˜‰

Ok, now iΒ΄m really impressed. I managed to re-think your idea of the transformation mechanics (what goes where when transforming).
Things i couldnΒ΄t understand: where goes the club in car mode, and, the cockpit looks broad enough to be a two-seater, one pilot and 1 passenger?

Well, thank you, I'm pleased to impress.
Now for your questions...
The club:
The handle telescopes, so the two smaller lengths collapse inside the thickest part (the head of the club). That tubular shape then goes between the calves -- see how there's a tubular concavity in the back of each lower leg? Basically, if the car-mode Badlander had a hood you could lift up (it doesn't) you'd find the collapsed mace right smack dab in the middle.
The cockpit:
The crew cabin is indeed broad enough to be a two-seater; it can hold one pilot and one passenger/navigator/bag of hand grenades and snacks, whatever...

Damn, you really thought this one through
And snacks are always a good idea

Heh, indeed! Β One of the things I try to keep in mind whenever I'm designing mecha is: could this be made into a workable model kit and/or toy?Β I don't always succeed, but I try...

Well, in THIS case, iΒ΄m sure it would work.
IΒ΄m quite good at 3-dimensional thinking, and i consider it doable.

Noice. Happy you think so!

I did like it truly...for a Transformers-like, Dorvack-like setting or a Galvionesque campaign (Misty Chaser...Love Chaser...). It wasn't the best choice for OR. Too much toy-like in a pleasurable way.

Agreed. This was probably the least of my OR designs.

Besides the Ex-Sentinel this is my second favorite Mecha.Β  While the one Bike model was alright to me the 'look' just didn't seem right for some reason

Having watched a few of the classic Eighties mecha anime that featured wheeled vehicles, I can understand your visual design plight. Not to mention the fact that "futuristic" land vehicles that aren't "smart cars" can be difficult to realize too, by a lot of them. (Dvorak had designs that were plain ugly.)

Dorvack's designs were indeed ugly. [high five]
The only other decent sources of reference/inspiration for transformable cars come from Galvion and Transformers. Designing a transformable car that holds more than one person in robot mode is a design plight indeed! Happy to chat with someone who "gets it."

Despite the popularity of the sub-genre, transforming vehicle anime did not last too long. Then they got shoved into the Transformers ghetto, and that was about it for the most part. We need some more transforming vehicle anime to give a wider range of designs.

Well, there's Gyrozetter -- that's airing right now. But of course their transformations cheat.

I can't really say that I'd accept Gyrozetter right now.

I really like this one. There's a vintage vibe, like I've seen in gundam and macross artbooks.

Thank you mucho! It was drawn almost twenty years ago, I think, so "vintage" it definitely is.

Roadstriker. What a fun sourcebook for Mekton II!!! And you couls easily slip stuff like that into Cyberpunk "mad scientist" campaigns. Everytime I see any of your work for Talsorian it puts me a bright smile on my face, fond memories of shared adventures and, most importantly, friendship. Thanks again for sharing your work!

1984. Pretty obscure. Distinctive car mecha.

'84 was a GREAT year. Neuromancer, Terminator, the Macross movie... God, so much great media from that year.

It still looks like a transformer... like not a little, but a lot...

looks great though. But I thought it was a transformer design up until I read the info

Heh, I know, you're right. Like I said, it's hard to make a transforming car that doesn't look like a TF. Ever seen any Glavion mecha?
