Description
This is the main starship from the "Operation Rimfire" Mekton II RPG adventure. It's internal workings include a gravity centrifuge up top, a carousel-type hangar below (with space and maintenance for ten Mektons), and an electromagnetic Mekton launch channel. The ship requires a crew of 20, masses 67,025 tons, and its engines can crank out 1.875 Gs of thrust per second per second. The Rimfire is armed with four energy cannon turrets, a complement of 600 missiles, and a network of defensive laser batteries. Not the most anime-looking starship design ever, but to be fair, I was looking at a lot of Project: A-Ko when I drew it. The space stations and such in that OVA are coooool. Anyway, this picture is copyright and everything R. Talsorian Games, no infingement, etc. Oh, and in the spirit of full disclosure: I didn't make the starfield in the background (I found it via Google Images and tweaked it).

Thanks, it's a design I'm proud of. I wish a toy had been made of it!

I dunno about the whole "not anime" thing. I can see some influence from Titans ships in there.

Fair enough... There is a bit of Alexandria to be seen, now that you mention it.

Interesting design my friend. It actually looks like an advanced version of the Alexandria class cruisers from Zeta Gundam; kind of a combination of the blocky and purely functional Federation designs and the more organic looking Zeon aesthetics.

Thanks. I can see where you're coming from, though I was trying pretty hard to make it look NOT like a Gundam type of ship. Nevertheless, Zeta Gundam is a personal favorite, so I can't complain!

Interesting thought! If I remember correctly, the Rimfire wasn't designed for atmospheric activity... But I can see what you mean.

Yep. It was not aggressive-looking as, let's say, a Pegasus-class or an Ikazuchi yet the design was well developed. I liked it very much.

Yeah, it's more of an exploration-looking vessel... Which probably was a bad call on my part. But it did come out extremely nicely, IMO, so no harm done. I'm flattered you liked it.

Very nice. I used to use this ship as part of my Mekton Esbeliben fleet (all Macross ships) in a game-verse of my own creation back in the day (early 1990s).
Great work.

Do I detect some influence from Newton Ewell? A beautiful looking craft and well done too.

While I love Newton's stuff (hell, I know the guy), he didn't influence me on this piece. I mentioned in the description that I was looking at Project A-Ko when I drew the Rimfire -- the starships and space stations and such in that anime were really intricate.
(Note to self: check to see who the mecha designer was.) (Checks.) (Hmmm. "Graviton." Never heard of him/them before.)
But! In any event, thank you very much for the compliments on the ship. It's one of my favorites... I really should detail some of its functionality.

that would be cool. I have had the opportunity to converse with Newton here on DA and the detail in your work just reminded me sooo much of his. There were some real Robotech-esque shapes in there I especially loved the hangars nicely placed too. I love when a design makes sense.

Well thank you! I'm not sure what a "Robotech-esque shape" is, but I love the mecha designs in Macross & Mospeada, so I'll take it as a compilment. And I especially am flattered that you appreciate the design's effort. I'm definitely gonna make sure to throw up some more details.

I tried to run Operation Rimfire a couple of times but my then regular playing group disbanded. But someday I will play the entire campaign...

Doesn't that suck, when real life ruins a good gaming group and/or campaign. I wish you luck!

it is original & design elements make sense. Very good work, also generally I think hand drwan ships has a certain charm & spirit that modeled ones lack. This piece of art proves my point

It's a rather nice ship. I like how the locations of everything make sense.Kind of reminds me of a cross between a Zeon Musai, The various ships from Star Trek, and the Nadesico.
The only issue with the ship is how a few well aimed attacks could potentially tear the engines off the ship... Or even cause the engines to tear themselves off on their own... But that's just one of those things. XP
I'd love to see one of these in combat. About haw many suits can this guy load? (Also looks like there's space to tether a large mobile armor type mecha between the engines and behind the hanger.)

Wow, thanks for the comments! Yeah, I know it's rather implausible, but that's something many, many, many sci-fi shows have encouraged us to be comfortable with... Anyhow, it can hold 10 mecha in its carousel. You could indeed anchor a Mobile Armor or x10-scale corvette between its engine, totally.
