Description
How long has it been since I posted a """sexy""" anthro drawing? Depends what you'd count, I guess... ooh, I'd make it since March last year . That's quite a while. Well, it's been even longer since I last drew Paprika the Charmeleon. I wanted to make another one right after Grumpeleon , partly for one-with-clothes-one-without, and partly because I was never really happy with how that one turned out. Most of it I liked, but I just couldn't quite get her face right. In fact, this has been a recurring theme with Paprika (even more so than her signature shirt):
The first drawing with her was a collection of doodles that became a lot more popular than I expected; the second was a rushed quickie with wonky anatomy and a goofy-looking face; and for the third, I went nuts with the detail but still couldn't get the stupid face right. So... here's me trying to finally solidify her look after nearly 3 years. And I think I succeeded! I really like how basically everything turned out. The face was mainly based on the middle left drawing from that original sketchpage, since that was the one that felt closest to how she looked in my head.
Recently, I also went and looked through every single one of my anthro drawings going all the way back to 2012, to study what worked and what didn't, and see if I learned from my mistakes. Well, one thing I noticed was that it was painfully obvious when I'd actually referenced the anatomy, and when I'd just fudged it because "ehh, I know what shoulders look like". Well clearly you didn't, past me, because it took you until 20-ruddy-19 to stop making them just vaguely rounded with a little tube neck sticking out!!! So another thing I wanted to do with this was take the referencing seriously. Necks are actually quite complicated, so if I want to make them look good then it takes a fair bit of work.
Oh yes, and Photoshop. One of the brushes it came preloaded with was the "Classic Cartoonist" inking brush; at first I thought it would be too rough, but it's actually quite a joy to use. It was what I used for all the lines you can see here. It has just enough texture to add character without being overly gritty, plus (as with all rough brushes) it comes with the inherent benefit of making it physically impossible for me to spend half the total time of the drawing just smoothing out the lines and trying to make them look perfect (EVEN THOUGH I KNOW FULL WELL THE IMAGE WILL ONLY EVER BE SEEN AT LIKE LESS THAN HALF RESOLUTION, BUT I STILL DO IT ANYWAY). Speaking of time, this one took me just 4 days. Not bad for someone who's still recovering and can't work for that long at a time.
The "I" in the title is because I want to do more Paprikas (you know, like Roman numerals and whatnot). I started by doing a set of doodles (once again) which told a little story, and I was like "ooh, I could do 4 full drawings out of these!" Really though, not only is that a bit much work, but also most of them wouldn't really work as separate pinups, so I think I'll do them all in one post and not as highly-rendered as this one.
Anyway, it's good to be back! ❤️ I hope I can keep making these for youse.
