In the movie, Frank was taken away in a straight jacket.

Hey it's lizard lips!Ā  I loved Frank and you captured him wonderfully.Ā  His relationship with Mjr. Houlihan was one for the ages. I really like the look of the colored paper.

Thanks, Cliff!

I like changing it up a little.Ā  Every kind of paper has an affect on the look.Ā  I like the darker color too so I can use white in the mix.Ā  It gives it a more 3-dimensional look

LOVE, LOVE LOVE this! It's hard to wrap my mind around the fact that Larry Linville was actually a nice guy off camera, since he played the character of Frank Burns with such conviction. Anyway, excellent job!!

I'm just curious, how long did it take you to complete this? And how long have you been an artist in general? I don't think I could ever reach this level of awesomeness, personally, and I've been drawing most of my life. Ā

Thanks for your comment!Ā  This took about 4 hours to complete.Ā  Working with the 3 tones is a different experience than with a single graphite pencil and white paper... in some ways easier... in others more difficult

Thanks Mike!Ā  Part of my attempt here is due to your own toned paper work.Ā  I love the contrast the white and black can achieve on a middle tone paper

Tell you a lil secret.
I HATED Frank Burns on M.A.S.H.. I hated that guy so much I hated Larry Linville because of it.
Mind you I Started watching it in 1972 ( I was 6 ) so that lack of knowledge on such things as actors/roles and such had LOTS to do with it.. But the hate was there nonetheless.
I grew up and in that growing up I came to understand something profound. ~ Dumb People cannot play smart BUT smart people CAN play dumb.
Took a while but I finally cam to the realization on how Amazingly brilliant an actor Larry Linville was to do that character every week and make him such an asshole that I was taken in so much TO hate Frank/Larry.. That amazing ability finally got thru my thick skull that here was someone who was so good he made all the rest look pretty plain.
I Still have a hard time seeing him in other roles and NOT hating him... But Alas thats long past.
Personally I rank him into the top 1% of the most amazing actors in a role that was done so perfectly every week that he made a (pretty) smart 6 year old hate him so much.
That kind of ability sets him apart form almost every other actor who ever performed.
Excellent job in this work.

That's funny... I think I was the same... and also... Someone from facebook told me essentially the same thing.Ā  I loved Linville's character because he because the butt of Hawkeye and B.J. Hunnicutt's relentless jabs.Ā  Perfect setup!
Another good one was Major Charles Emerson Winchester III Played by: David Ogden Stiers -Ā  what a range of cast they had.Ā  No wonder they had some of the highest ratings in TV history.

yes he was the butt yet he was also one who's character made himself the butt of many jabs, lokes and such. How the hades he kept a straight face thru some of them I have NO idea.. ( thinking the Hotlips scenes or 5 o'clock Charlie or even the foxhole scene when BJ filled it with water and yelled "Air Raid"...I think *I* would have wet my pants laughing so hard and almost did just watching the show.. the outtakes/bloopers prolly would give a heart attack.
I liked Chuckie too but he was more a tightass than frank and he was competent where Frank shouldnt have even been a vet(character wise) and that set him apart from Burns being SUCH and idiot.
Actually I'll tell ya a secret.. my most FAV character on that show was Sidney. NOTHING fazed him and he always had some of THE best comeback lines for anyone or anything.
Then there was Col. Flagg......................

Yeas and thats a cool like.. I read somewhere also that with the advent of cable TV not a half hour goes by without an episode of MASH being aired on some channel 24/7. Thats some serious popularity there even after almost 40 years off air.

I agree... the outtakes and bloopers for this show would have been amazing

Burns was the the ultimate straight man... it gave all the jokes an obvious target and some satisfaction when they hit

Yuppers. and that he could pull it off even just using himself as both the insulter and butt of the joke ( The OR interplay was a great place for that) AND both make it believable, Funny and do it with conviction and NOT bust out laughing.. The mas was truthfully an amazing talented actor and prolly the best one of the whole show to at least pull their character off so well.

Thanks, Karen!Ā  I ordered a whole roll of the brown craft paper for this purpose.Ā  Ive seen some other artwork with the tri-color technique.Ā  I think it really adds some great contrast and dimension to the work.
