Description
On April 4th, I left Houston, TX on a solo road trip with no real plans except to travel old Route 66, see the Grand Canyon and make it to Las Vegas before turning around. 16 days, 4,093 miles, and 6 states later, I had done those things and so much more.I had camped in my car in Oklahoma while wildfires raged around me. I explored forgotten Glen Rio on the Texas/New Mexico state line. I discovered this gutted church in Taiban on my way to the Billy the Kid Museum in Fort Sumner - the church now abandoned for over 80 years, nearly 3 times as long as it saw active sermons. I saw relics and remnants of Americana as it once was on old 66. I hiked hillsides to old mining camps. I met cowboys and Indians. Drove through a mountain pass in Arizona with switchbacks careening dangerously around steep slopes with no guardrails. Got burned by the desert. Shared my trip with an audience of social media followers back home and across the world. An incredible experience all around.
It was a trip I had wanted to take since I was a young teenager, wanting to run away without yet knowing what from. I know now. And I know that adventure still runs through my veins, as well as the dreams in my head.

Hello!
This beautiful image is proudly featured in
Resonating PixelsUnfortunately we hadn't enough time to do decent features since ages. Neither now—but I collected some of the images from 2018 and paired them to create something like talking pictures. As if they were talking to each other, to emphasize, expand, explain or reflect each other.
I intentionally left out DD awarded images (as far as I know) so I can state that these are not all the best photos. They are in the top but there are many comparable or sometimes even better pics in our 2018 gallery. Please yourself to discover the others, it is worth the time! And take your time to scroll all the way down, because I placed the bests of the bests to the end. And to the start. And in between.

This is great. Reminds me of hearing about the Oklahoma Dust Bowl from old people in the state.

Thank you! I found out a lot about the history of the dust bowl on my trip. Even saw an exhibition of photos from the era at the Devil's Rope Museum in McClean, TX. Hard to imagine living through such tough times.

Thank you! It was indeed and I am so happy I had the opportunity and took it. I am sure i will be sharing many more photos from the trip, but this was one of my favorites because it was such a moment of quiet grace stumbled upon in the desert. I felt it a good one to represent the trip as a whole.
I am actually hoping to put together a photo book of sorts ftom the adventure.

That's a great idea! Will you publish it like on Blurb?

Yes, something like that, unless I could sell it to an actual publisher rather than publishing myself.
