Nice dude, you've really nailed the whole subtle background thing-maybe you can give me some tips!!!
Love the lighting and pretty much everything else-the only thing I find a little jarring is her eyes; they look great but her eyeliner feels too crisp in contrast to the rest of the piece to me. Sorry to be a critic! There's always one isn't there...
Good to see you're really investing some time and effort into those descriptions too buddy hahaha!

Ugh, I don't know how to write anything in the description without being negative so I keep it short
Good call on the eyes, I mean they're meant to be crisp but not horrible pixels. That was some absent minded re-sizing in photoshop. I'll fix that in a bit. Cheers though, I probably wouldn't have looked at it again for months if you hadn't said anything!
(also the trick with the backgrounds is to draw random shapes with an airbrush and hope nobody notices )

Curse PS and it's awful transform algorithms! I actually think sketchbook does a better job in not making things hideously pixelated in a lot of situations surprisingly.
I think both of us need an injection of belief in our abilities. We're such negative thinkers it's amazing we've got this far! My other half is always moaning at me for being down on my stuff. She says I basically point out negatives before people have a chance to form their own (normally more positive) opinions about my stuff. She's right of course. Ya know, being a woman and all- thus therefore always right...if I know what's good for me that is!

Oh yeah, I get told off for that frequently.
I'm trying to be more critical of my stuff but also less negative. Which is tricky.Β

Yeah, I think that's a great balance if you can manage it. I think I'm getting there-I have my down days where I question if this is all worth the amount I've committed in time and effort and doubt everything I'm doing, but mostly these days I can take a sidestep and look at my stuff from a more neutral perspective. Saying that, I've always been pretty self aware of my weaknesses and areas that need attention and tend to systematically focus on improving individual aspects of my stuff, but as you know, it's a never-ending cycle!Β
My advice for you (not that you asked, but I'm gonna give it anyway lol)Β though is just keep doing what you're doing, as your stuff is looking really tight and refined these days. Maybe challenge yourself with some larger more complex compositions? I dunno. Other than that it just comes back to those art SPLOSIONS!

Mmm, yeah. I think I tend to treat everything as practice. Β That kind of justifies doing it but at the same time I think it's what puts me off doing more complex stuff. Like "I'll do that once I'm good" . But obviously I'm not going to get good at it if I'm not doing it so... yeah, some more interesting stuff is on the cards. Hopefully.Β

Wow, that sounds a lot like my approach to comic storytelling! "I've got a great idea for a story, but I'll draw it once I'm good enough!" I start to think that might be never if I'm the one judging...
Haha, no pressure man, sounds like we're pretty similar in a lot of ways! I try to tell myself that I'm just doing stuff for fun, because I choose to, to try and lessen the pressure and tendency to procrastinate!

Yeah, just need that perfect amount of pressure to motivate without making it feel like an obligation

Or better yet just motivated enthusiasm to the point you forget about the pressure! Hehe
