Do you do all your painting on one layer (aside from the initial sketch, of course), or do you have multiple layers for different things?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

griffsnuff In reply to Xinjay [2013-07-29 06:51:16 +0000 UTC]

It usually says in the artist comment if I have done them on one layerΒ  :3 if not then I used multiple ^^

I tried this messy way of painting a background, but I find it really hard to define the boundaries and edges of distinct objects. How do you do it? Use an eraser? Or a dark, thin brush to outline? >.<

(amazing picture by the way; I saw the finished piece~)

griffsnuff In reply to AngelKite [2013-07-29 06:46:13 +0000 UTC]

Its all about having a visual library. When you do, your brain works on autopilot and just fills in what you know and remember. The more you study a thing, or draw a thing the better you will know how to make it. xD there are some things I just arent able to do so well, because my memory of it is just not there, and that I have not drawn it or studied it enough.

painting like this is like painting a traditional painting. you just paint over your mistakes.

thanks

Just a question, but do you ever do big pieces like this in SAI? If so do you have a walk-through anywhere for it?

Also, I find the step by step things like this really helps, I'm still trying to get better at back grounds. XD

Its the excact same in sai x3 so the walkthrough would be the same.

you're lovely for a million reasons.

I do have a question though,

When you're digitally painting like this, do you work on the picture as a whole? Β I find that I can do that will traditional media no problem but I get pretty ocd with the computer and zoom into one SMALL portion and finish it totally separate at a time. Β Makes it super detailed, but less tight as a whole... and extremely time consuming. Β I just have a hard time allowing myself to access the entire picture at once due to the limited view through the screen... any thoughts/ suggestions? Β Or what's your process? Β

thanks so much my dear (: Β Your work is always a thrill.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

griffsnuff In reply to xToulax [2013-07-28 14:39:17 +0000 UTC]

Yes! I do work as a whole and try not to be stuck in one area for to long!Β  Its important to keep most details were they are important, and that is the creature in this case. xD I did go slightly crazy with details everywere on this though haha but it turned out fun since it blends in more with the surroundings.

Zoom in and out all the time, and move to places which needs more work. I do have a speedpaint like clip on youtube which shows how I work Β  www.youtube.com/watch?v=JDUDVi…
