Description Star Trek Fan Art

I always liked the intellectual, problem-solving second-in-command First Lieutenant of Captain Christopher Pike's USS Enterprise (NCC-1701). She could probably kick some serious Klingon butt if they had continued her character.

The prominence of a female senior officer on a starship was one of the reasons that the original Star Trek pilot was rejected by NBC. Those guys now work at FOX and cancelled Firefly too. Those bastards!

Number One was played by the First Lady of Star Trek, Majel Barrett.

Damn good action shot you’ve drawn here. The poses are fantastic, especially the angles at which you’ve drawn the Klingons, the angled jaw, the flying hair, and I’m loving Number One’s ‘all in a day’s work’ expression. It really looks like a still from an episode I wish so badly was real.

Number One is doubtless my fave ST character, even though she’s only in the pilot. Honestly, she’s the only ST female who’s smart, sensible, kicks ass and doesn’t scream and hide behind the nearest male character in dangerous situations.
I read somewhere that Roddenberry was forced to choose between her and Spock when it came to who’d stay on in the show, which is a dreadful choice to have to make. In a perfect world, however, he should have been allowed to keep both - imagine how epic the resulting ST could have been!

The only thing I could possibly point out is Number One’s hair, which doesn’t seem to have enough… swing (no idea if that’s the right word, but I’m not sure how else to put it) considering the almighty beating she’s dealing out. (Though you could argue it’s simply because she sticks a lot of hair gel in there to maintain her sixties do… w/e).

Yeah...the hair is a bit stiff. I felted I got a pretty good sense of action from the Klingons dropping but not as much movement from Number One's kick. Keeping her facial expression "cool and collected" was intentional for the character, she was more like Spock in the pilot, but I guess I just carried that over into her hair style as well.

According to Gene Roddenberry, the prominence of a female senior officer among the crew was one of the reasons that the original Star Trek pilot was rejected by NBC. They didn't like the alien Spock either and believed that they would be rejected by audiences, because they were TV executives and by definition “out-of-touch.” They probably went over to FOX and canceled Firefly too. So Roddenberry compromised by eliminating Number One and transplanting her cool demeanor and logical nature to Spock.

And yes the secret to a successful and happy life is to is a good theme song, every Hero should have one. That why I keep an iPod handy, in case there is no music.
