Description Been working on a High to bake down. Its the Le Mat Revolver made and used during the US Civil war.

.41 cal 9shot Black powder revolver, w a secondary fire of a 20guage shotgun barrel.

Still doing a lot of tweaking, loosening some edge loops to get better bakes and maximize my normal results.

Some of the lines that pop up are from floating geo.

Edit: Screen Caps from Maya Viewport.

Fantastic model! Mind if I ask what the polycount was?

Thanks. That was just the highpoly so the tri count was probably somewhere around 500k or so smoothed out. The low ended up around 2k I think, but my old computer died and I lost the files.
But I've got some new guns I'm finishing up now, so swing back by in a week or so and they should be up. They really put this one to shame imo.

Your Le-Mat has put every single one of my models to shame, even my high-poly ones. I can't wait to see what else you put up

^^Thats a modern .44 cal repro. Just type in, le mat revolver, into google and you'll find plenty of reproductions and with a little snooping, you'll find a lot of civil war relics.

I don't mind. Its actually just a cg reproduction of a real gun so :/
Unfortunately the game rez will never be finished as my hdd crashed shortly after laying the base texture, but meh.

Also sorry for the late reply, I've been off in portfolio land so I don't really glance at my own DA pages except on occasion.

Wait? your telling me that that thing (six shooter with an integrated shotgun) exists?
I need to look it up for the Gladius Dei project.

The time of the gun, i dont think it would have had a rifled barrel, and my one doesnt in real live, so that might take some consideration

Thanks for the comments, always appreciated.
--side note--
Actually rifling was making its debut around the period that this gun was made. Depending on the generation of the barrel (can't say 100% if the generation 1's had rifling or not) one of the barrels did have rifling. Considering its the generation 1 outer barrel with the hex/smooth split I can't say for certain as the reference pictures I had for the interior of the .41cal barrel are of a generation 2 barrel. Though it wasn't uncommon for soldiers that carried the gun to mix and match generations, because of the rarity of the gun.
I went with the gen 1 exterior simply because it appealed to me more than the gen 2 solid hex from a modeling standpoint.
--But I have considered removing the rifling because it causes some issues w/ the normal bake, if the generation 1 barrel doesn't have it then its even more reason , so thanks I'll be sure to look more into it.
