Description The modular Brushset is the Result of my journey through the possibilties of Kritas Brushengine. In the Beginning it was not my intention to make a complete Brushset for Krita, but with more and more Presets summing up on my Harddisc i had to sort out the best of them and optimize the settings. By that time it was kind of logical to bring all the stuff together and prepare it for a releasable Set of Brushes.

(03.Feb 2014)

More than the previous versions of this set, this is the collection of tools, I personally prefer and tweaked to my needs, and not what i considered to be needed in general. That is why it is not something one may call complete and it was never meant as an replacement for the tools that ship with Krita.

One thing i believe in is that higher specialized tools reduce creative processes. On the other hand the spectrum of possible tools in traditional Art creation, is as wide as the imagination can go - endless. Hence that, we must find a balance, giving the best tools to bring imagination to the canvas, without limiting creativity by a dictation of the Tools we use. V4 of my Brushset is the version, that comes closest to this, from my own viewpoint.

thank you I had never hard of this program before... but just downloaded it and am gonna try it out. I use  cs5 now. For my photo manips but have been wanting to get something to try painting. Was thinking about SAI but its hard to find out much about actually buying the program. Besides if I was a good painter I would buy, but I just want to play around with it. So this is perfect for me.

A good choice. When i tested krita the first time my purposes where similar to yours. I have also used SAI (testversion), but i have seen no reason to pay for it. Krita is great for just having fun, playing around with its sketch brushes or painting in symmtrie mode. I am sure you will enjoy it

Your set rocks !
Well done for how you organized the brushes.
It could be the default set for Krita that I wouldn't be surprised.
Maybe for the next 2.8 ?
If somebody ask me about it, I would say : yes it is a good idea !

Maybe the nicest comment i got on DA so far

I guess it will be considered to add some of my presets to the defaults for 2.8

Surely this would be a honor and pleasure for me, but there are also some extremely nice other

new sets and i could imagine that it is not easy to make a choice.

Honestly, you have done a real good work, because your set is clear, well organized, precise and efficient.
And you have made quite all the staff needed (to have an overall set, I kept some of your old brush you deleted for v2).

It will be hard for somebody to do better...

Hey, i recommend to read the article about this Brushset -> vascobasque.wordpress.com/2013…

This should answer most questions about this set. Unfortunately the Sorting feature does not work in version 2.7 of Krita. I guess that's what you meant by seperating?

If you need further assistance feel free to ask! We are all noobs in our own small worlds

heh thx you but i already visited that place which it's where i found what i mean is that there a default list of brushes and when i create new preset, it's empty and i was trying to bring all these brushes modular in that empty preset.

GrindGod In reply to Allaze-eroler [2013-10-21 10:09:24 +0000 UTC]

Ah okay i think now i got it. You are talking about Tags to sort the brushes (presets) That does not work perfectly as it should, but it works. Right-click on a preset - enter a new tag - close Krita. Open Krita again, now the tag is saved, when you do a rightclick now on a preset you should see: Assign to tag >...

The Tags are only created when there is something assigned to it - if you create an empty tag (with the + Symbol) it will not show up as nothing is "in" it. What i described above is a workaround. I guess that this will be improved in the next versions of krita...

It's a amazing piece of free software and absolutely worth a try, especially since version 2.7 Krita has improved a lot in performance and the builds available for windows are very stable now

Yeah that's true unfortunately. I am a fan of winxp and i used it for nearly 10 years... but i would really recommend to anyone using XP to consider the change to a newer OS. The time of xp is over - it is too old. You will get more and more problems running new software. Win7 is good and stable and you can use it 3 Month for free...

I actually have a disc with Windows 7 on it, so I can install it if I want : ) Sadly, I'm going to have to wait until my bro is done building his gaming computer, in which then I'll get this one all to myself! He even has all his parts here, so that should be sometime soon!

GrindGod In reply to Wendy-the-Creeper [2013-09-11 05:22:38 +0000 UTC]

Ah okay i see.. A own PC will be much better than a shared one! And when it's ready with win7 you should give Krita a try. It's really a great piece of software for Digital Artists

Wendy-the-Creeper In reply to GrindGod [2013-09-11 19:21:36 +0000 UTC]

I'll make sure to attempt to remember to try it out. As it turns out, there was a part missing from a package my bro got, so I'll still have to wait some so they can retrieve that part...

I'm quite excited to try out Win7. Then, I can get rid of the extra clutter that my bro(and myself) put on here. I'm pretty sure half of my hard drive is full(good thing I don't use a netbook-the .xcf files for my art these days tend to be big, and even the full res png tend to be on the large size)!
