Description
Lyra holds the world in her *hands*This was painted from scratch in 8 hours in Corel. It is a copy of MC Escher's
Hand with Reflecting Sphere: [link]
I did not directly trace or Photoshop the original image, but I did use the original image as a very low opacity to get the paper texture and a subtle hand texture.

I sort of think it would have been a lot more interesting if you'd made the reflected hand her actual hoof. Regardless, awesome picture! I'm a big Escher fan myself, so this just WORKS for me.

Also, fish-eyed perspective is pretty realistic. Did you use real photos made with fish-eye lens to achieve such an effect?

Nope I just guessed how it would look, fortunately it was outside, since I think it would have been a lot harder indoors with lots of objects.

I gotta say, I found this image a while back, I believe during a "drawfriend stuff" on EqD, yet back then I never checked the original file. Anyway, on the point: I simply love this piece, because of the angle, the style, the creepiness behind it, and yet... the innocence it has, very marvelous work my fellow brony!

The way the hand reflects to just perfectly overlap with the end of her hoof is great.

For some reason that hand looks like something from Spongebob when they do those scenes where they point something out.
Anyone else reminded of that?

Thanks a lot! The perspective was tough Good thing is that I think it's harder to notice the mistakes than in normal perspective

Perhaps so, but considering how technically challenging it is to create that perspective, any mistakes are easy to forgive for the overall look. Though as a brony I must say, that is the CREEPIEST version of Lyra's hand I've seen. Somehow though, the transition works.

....you know, until I saw the "Reflecting" part, I had a rather different interpretation.
That of two different people, holding two different glass spheres, seeing and wishing to be the other.

True.
The reflection might want to be a real pony.
