The white is not a background actually.. it's part of the gradients. just a simple tiling

Ahaa, I was wondering if that was the case. I figured that the way the patterns were woven was a bit too tight for it to be background, at the very least. I know I've used gradients with dark blue/black to serve as the "background" in some of my own work as well.
Very nifty, regardless
