Description
originally i drew mona in a red and yellow retro outfit, but i changed the colours to green, orange and brown before i made the background. now, since =Nicc593 and ~ARCHVERMIN wanted to see her in retro red again, i've changed the colours back. i think the reds go better with the greens and blues of the background. i don't know why i changed it in the first placehere is the other version

I think I like this version better too...the red just has a nice pop to it. Her outfit is just so cool and stylish. It's outragious(sp?) in a way, but still practical enough ya know? The colors and textures are really cool.

I dig both versions. Her shoes are really the cats meow, I want some red pumps now...not like I can walk in them or anything. ha ha.

i'm glad you like her shoes, i enjoy them muchly. i used to think those shoes with the extra long points which were even longer than your feet needed to be were stupid, but i've grown to love them, hehe.
i don't actually own any, either, though :\ i don't even know if they make them big enough for my HUGE size 8 1/2 feet. everytime i go into a store they only have size 6 on display and i feel discriminated against and i leave

ha ha I wear 8 1/2 too. I always think the shoes look so cute on the display and then they bring them out in my size and they look enormous! I was like well, they were cute in size 5 but not anymore.

I agree that I like this one a lot better. The contrast just makes it pop. Its funny because I really liked the colours in the other one-until I saw this one :3 Her shoes are especially cute and I love the greens of the background! The textures are gorgeous and I just love her look! The glasses are so cute, too! love her outfit (shortshortshorts hehe)

hahahah, "makes it pop" is the exact phrase i was thinking when i was uploading it to DA. it's a good thing i didn't write that in the description, coz i've heard it said so many times that if i had written it, people wouldn't have had anything to write themselves X3
my problem was i liked the colours of her other outfit so much i didn't want to admit that reds would look better, even if i wouldn't want to wear an entierly red and yellow suit myself, haha.

amazing work *_*
I love how you did the legs, the way her hair came out, and the texture all over it <3
The coloring is delicious, as well as the background <3
Is the texture of the floor done by hand? I mean, these lill white lines?
Anyway~~ great job <3

wow, thank you for such a lovely comment. it makes me feel squishy all over ^_____^
the floor texture was a manipulated stock texture photo, i don't have tha patience to do stuff like that by hand if i don't have to, hahaha.

ok I like the overall design, yes the red is better, but I don't like her feet. They just don't look right, but that's just my opinion. I hope this doesn't sound rude to you, not meant to be.

guava In reply to MelonyChitwood [2006-02-06 05:26:14 +0000 UTC]
thanks, i'm glad you think the red works better. the crit would be a bit more helpful if you could tell me more about why the feet don't look right to you. is it the size, the angle, the style? keeping in mind that the legs are supposed to be foreshortened, which is why they're quite large in comparison to the rest of her, and that she is wearing those 'jimmy choo' kinda shoes that are way longer and pointier than they need to be ^^
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
MelonyChitwood In reply to guava [2006-02-06 08:28:09 +0000 UTC]
I can tell you were foreshortening (which looks fine), but the overall look from the knees down just doesn't seem to fit in my eyes. (my opinion, mind you, so please take this all with a grain of salt)
The calves are too slim, if the toned look with the pronounced kneecap is what you want then she'd have bigger calves from working out.
Need to slim down the leg around the ankle a bit more as well, too uniform in size down the lower leg.
If your going to have those type of socks I'd choose a different type of shoe to go with them, the jimmy choo shoes just don't fit right with them, maybe a boot? (and my tastes are just different in shoes, I hate those pointed toes, feet aren't like that, so why are the shoes that way?). Or vice versa, try different socks/stockings/whatnot with the jimmy choo shoes if you want to keep them.
Again I apologize if any of this comes off rude or condescending, I hate being treated that way and try my hardest to not do that to people.

guava In reply to MelonyChitwood [2006-02-07 02:52:11 +0000 UTC]
hey man, that's cool. thanks for that. i don't normally attempt foreshortening, but i can see areas where i've gone wrong.
as for the socks and jimmy choos, i was actually going for that odd combo, kind of like what you find in the japanese 'fruits' magazine. it's not a fashion statement i'd make to wear to a job interview or anything, haha. i was going for a juxtaposition of high haute couture fashion and retro. i just like to try different things, coz there are no fashion rules when it comes to art illustrations ^__^
