Description
Somebody over at a FaceBook group stated that they were awful at drawing feet. I slapped together some bits from sketches and added a couple of little things to make a tutorial for this person. Someone else asked me for this same thing over a year ago, and I sent them a bunch of stuff. It's been a while since I'd done any kind of tutorial, so I figured what the heck. It's such a simple thing to draw, but so many times I've seen it done as an afterthought. And if it's not done right, the whole drawing suffers from it. And it all starts with the basic shape, and the bone structure at the bottom of the lower leg. Hopefully, as I hope with all my tutorials, someone can find something they can use. I've also thought about doing a hand tutorial, as I've gotten great help from other people's tutorials on this subject. BTW, excuse the feet with only four toes - I work a lot with Simpsorama/Family Guy stuff!copyright Robert L. Fitzpatrick

When I beheld this study of various feet in various positions, with and without footwear, I immediately thought of an old jazz song "Your Feet's Too Big." So, here's a link to a version by Leon Redbone. www.youtube.com/watch?v=DYomv4…. Otherwise, a good example of practice making perfect.

::laughs:: That makes me think of the Zappa standard "Dancin' Fool" - "Don't know much about dancin', that's why I got this song - one of my leg's shorter than the other, and both of my feet's too long."

I remember that Zappa song, "Dancin' Fool," although I never really liked or listened to Zappa. Quite frankly, I thought Frank Zappa was a drugged-up nutcase.

Oh, but was he talented. I still love the hell out of "Cosmik Debris." The words are hysterical... www.youtube.com/watch?v=wtx4ZJ…

Being talented doesn't make him any the less deranged to me. And any man who names his son "Dweezle," is not somebody I would want to pal around with. There have been, throughout history, musicians, painters, writers and performers who created great art that we can all appreciate. But, by and large, most of these very talented individuals were also seriously disturbed, if not outright mentally ill.

I call for Salvador Dali. After watching his lengthy interview with Mike Wallace back in the 1960's, I'm convinced the man was crazy as a bedbug.

Yes, I recall our discussions about Salvador Dali, and I fully agree with you; the man was a walking "looney toon." Another wacko artist that I learned about on YouTube last evening was Francis Bacon (Not to be confused with the English viscount, writer and scientist of the Elizabethan era). His art, with it's distorted figures with open, snarling mouths was truly the work of a deranged mind, which, I believe, was exacerbated by his heavy drinking, gambling and rampant homosexual behavior.

Thank you! They say practice makes perfect, but I always have the most trouble when it comes to the little piggies...

A great resource that would help is any kind of model shots, or the tons of paparazzi photos - those guys will shoot gobs of photos of starlets and their flip-flops. I practice a lot on both hands and feet - it definitely pays off. as far as the piggies go, you can see the Simpson-type stuff I've done here. Good luck!
