Description
It was a rainy old day (I'm not griping - it's been dry here lately). I just felt like doing something different, and did some doodles before I did this. As you can see, I was in a classical jag. No particular story here...maybe she's just watching the rain out the window. It does look like she's got something on her mind, like she might be worrying about something.Marge Simpson is the property of Matt Groening.

Nice work on the penciling. Now all marge needs to do is let hair down and the image shall be complete.

That was such a nice memory, this sketch - at the time I worked in this little booth at a truck entrance...I used to call it the "crazy box" and the "Mercury capsule" and other names. It was a rainy old day, and I had just the right music going. I've always liked this image of her, as we all like her as if she were real. Neat memory.

I wish I could remember how I came up with the ideas for some of my pics. But then again they all come from my dreams and I have so many of them that I've lost track.

Oh, every piece of art has a story behind it. That's the fun of it. I get disappointed with people who post pictures and have absolutely nothing to say with them.

Well, I have been influenced by somethings that make me do the pics I do. I guess that would count.

See? There you go. Music is a huge influence on my art, and is a part of every project; there's a lot of Rush and Yes music in behind most of my pieces here.

I've been influenced by a lot of things. Movies, TV shows, video games. Each on gives me something to work with. Have you read my guild of the Maltese falcon comic?

I did see that...doing a cartoon page takes a lot of time.

Yeah. My dad thinks its pretty easy to draw cartoons. But what he doesn't know is that crafting an original series like that one takes time and effort. I spent about almost a year drawing down the story board for the first issue and another half putting it all in paint. (Microsoft paint that is.) All of that including doing school work, helping out around the house, studying for tests, going to a trade school for a degree in animation and of course spending time playing video games. Like I said, a lot of time and effort.

I know. Plus sometimes my laziness just takes over and I won't get started drawing until almost 9 pm.

Like the others I find your pencil sketch fantastically well done and the choice of music from some of the great composers. The sound of falling rain outdoors as it hits the leaves of the trees is also soothing, it you don't mind getting wet. Rain on a tin roof is also very pleasing until it becomes a hard downpour, then it becomes racket. Many times I have napped as the rain tapped its soothing sounds on the tin roof of the barn.

Thanks! This sketch really got people's imaginations going. I noticed on your profile that you are from New England - I'm putting the finishing touches on a fanfiction about Morgan Proctor from Futurama, and I made York, Maine an important place for her. My pops was born in Brooklyn and raised in Queens. I myself hail from the Cincinnati area, and live in Indianapolis. Yep, we've seen a few rainy days in those places. Welcome to dA.

Thanks! I always like the textures you can convey with a pencil sketch. What you see here is mostly 2H and 2B pencil. You can get some delicate feathering with a 2H.

That's it exactly; that and pencil drawing is a good way of teaching/demonstrating/learning proportions and lighting.

I'm coming at this from the viewpoint of a photographer rather than an artist, but to me shading and highlighting a piece is an aspect of lighting.

I find that as an artist I often use photography and cinematography terms to describe things. I'll be talking with someone and mention a "crane shot" or a "tracking shot" or something like that. I really wish I'd studied photography in college; I just got a hold of a Pentax K1000SE and went wild with it.

This is a very good pencil sketch, no fooling! Sometimes rainy weather can bring out the creativity in us. At least Marge seems to like watching the rain outside her window, plus I like the casual clothes she's wearing. Once, I did a drawing of Rhonda sitting in a chair watching the rain, but for her, rain is depressing. I had her sitting there, hugging one of her teddy bears (she really digs teddy bears) as she stared out the window. Sadly, that original drawing got lost years ago.
Once again, this is a very fine sketch. Well done.

Hmm, I know what you said, but to me it looks like she's just contentedly watching the rain fall down. There's something quite soothing about listening to/watching heavy rain fall, when it's really heavy the individual drops just form a steady drumming sound that's quite pleasant.
