Yay! This is the first one I've drawn that I'm actually happy with! Except the hair.... I'm not sure what's wrong with it, except that it looks like a brain or tree roots. Also, the scan... the scan sucks, because one of the best things about the original was how smooth the skin looked, and it looks all grainy here. But anyway, this one took me less time to draw than Aragorn and Galadriel, about five or six hours or so.Related content

oh i like it! and no the hair is not bad. it does not look like tree roots
he does look like dominic: the eyes, nose and mouth. the thing that makes him different is his face structure/shape i guess.
but very beautiful none the less and good shading. what i do with shading which i think improved my drawing drastically is smudging the shading with a tissue while drawing. just a trick you could use if you like

I always like it when people don't try to make the characters look like the actors from the movies. To see a Merry that doesn't look like the one in the films AT ALL is very refreshing!

I would love to say that it wasn't, so I sound all original and awesome... But I'm not a very good artist so I had to be looking at a photo of Dominic Monaghan. Although my intention was definitely more to portray Merry than the actor

yup very true. I always measure stuff with my pencil when I'm drawing from photos, so that I know what measurements on the face are the same size

Well, I never do that. I can't handle the pencil like a ruler, but my visual judgement is pretty accurate.
