Description
This origami dragon was not meant to be complex or capture the accurate anatomy of a dragon. I simply wanted to make an origami dragon that is elegant and has a strong dragon look. The name simple represent the model, not the folding steps
Folded from a 15cm square japanese foil paper then painted using tamiya paint, flat red.
I'm still in search of the real dragon
Comments and suggestions are highly appreciated as always

It looks so delicate and pretty, like the hand could crush it forever.

I don't think it looks bird like at all! I think Its a very good simplified dragon. Some of the more simplified origami Designs I have seen for thing bare look like the thing they are supposed to be. Very nice work. My 9 yr old son and I love to do origami together. He like to make origami flowers and cranes for the kids at school. He would love to make this dragon design are there directions to it?

I'm dragon mad so this is a dream.
I think with regard to a small and beautiful piece it needs to look simple and elegant. And you've certainly done that.
I wish I could do something like this...I used to be able to do brilliant owls from really high to a rediculously small 50mm one, but I've forgotten how now.

Hi,
this model looks great. Your works are impressive. I'm searching for some insight into this model. On Mar 21, 2005, 5:05:07 AM your post says you used a blintz fish base. On May 28, 2005, 6:21:11 PM blintz frog base. Which did you use?

guspath In reply to TheDeadSmellBad [2005-07-08 08:43:21 +0000 UTC]
Yes, sorry a big confusion there, it should be blinzt fish base, because the four corners of the squre will end up becoming the four legs and the pair of wings, head and tail all from the raw edges. Thank's for commenting and clearing up this mistake

Gosh wow.. he is so cute! Do you have a pattern for this? I would love to make some.
You must have such great concentration to fold paper so small. I never got past making stars from long strips of paper or cranes.

Thank you again for commenting I think if you are not too demanding on the head (the two horns cost too much difficult to perform steps) I can make a simple diagram because the body is simple. But the head look just like a crane then

keeping it simple is always the best way.
I did by accident create a simple dragon out of the classic crane fold a couple of years ago. Have been thinking of submiting a tutoural on DA, but I never took the time to do it. Maybe time for it now...

Yes, you really should put it on DA, origami is still very rare here

Please tell me how you did it !! The result is so nice!!

Thank you very much for visiting and commenting It is simple because of the minimalistic look and also it is folded from a traditional base (blintz frog base)
I might make a tutorial for this one later, try my welsh corgi tutorial
Glad you like my work

this reminds me so much of the dragon on the Welsh flag, especially with the beak-like jaw. There's something really compelling about the relative simplicity of it's appearence. It must have taken you a great deal of time to get it to look just right.

Thank's so much for the comments
Actually what I like best about this model is the fact that the posture is the result of base folding; not manipulative fold usually done at the end to shape a model. Yes, that is the kind of dragon I aim at making, beak like jaw is much easier to fold that massive T-Rex jaw you need teeth to make it realistic.
Not exactly lot of time. I usually create when inspiration strikes me. This one took me less than a day

Awww that is such a CUTE dragon XD
I"m sorry if it's not supposed to be. But the way you positioned it in your hands, it makes the dragon look like a new hatchling from an egg.
I ADORE the tail... It looks impossible to do! o_o
Good job...

Haha... yes cute is quite a good description, I don't want to make it scary or cool, save it for the real dragon I am trying very hard to create now
The position on my hand, was inspired by someone in DA, he drew a newborn dragon sleeping on his palm, was nominated as the deviation of the day, just copied his style
Thank's for the comment

I love Tamiya paint XD ^^
It's very simple and pretty I'm sure alot of work is done on the head though, lol ^^
Um...is that the bird base, or is it me being blind ^^" Lol =] The wings look like something from the bird base to me. Maybe I'm just wrong, lol ^^"
It's very pretty ^^ I love how you smooth it's tail =] ^^

Thank you for your comments
Yes, I'm happy to hear the word simple because that was what I'm trying to achieve
Close, it is from simple fish base blintz (meaning the 4 corners all brought to the centre prior doing the fish base).
Yes, the wing, I hate that extra layer but can't keep it simple if I remove that layer... well have to compensate something.
The tail is long, I like it can't see it very clear because of the wing.
Thank's again for your nice comment, highly appreciated
