Description
In the J. R. R. Tolkien legendarium, Fëanor was the eldest son of the King of the Noldor Elves, Finwë. Míriel, his mother named him Fëanáro 'Spirit of Fire', which was given the Sindarin form Fëanor. She so named him because in the bearing of him she was consumed in spirit and body; and after his birth she yearned for release from the labours of living. She said to his husband Finwë: "Never again shall I bear child; for strength that would have nourished the life of many has gone forth into Fëanor."

Fëanor grew "swiftly, as if a secret fire were kindled within him. He was tall, and fair of face, and masterful, his eyes piercingly bright and his hair raven-dark; in the pursuit of all his purposes eager and steadfast. Few ever changed his courses by counsel, none by force. He became of all the Noldor, then or after, the most subtle in mind and the most skilled in hand."

So he became the greatest of the Noldor, and leader in their rebellion against the Valar; deviser of the Fëanorian script; maker of the Silmarils.
