Description
(copypasta from tumblr because wow, too lazy to rewrite)I’m done shittin around with this so it is done. DON’T JUDGE ME I DON’T…… make a lot of finished images and I’m still learning how to get lighting to fuckin work. :’V
So introducing Qélï Üárák, Captain of the Starship Dorado. Now I know what you’re thinking “Why is a fuckin furry in Starfleet,” and I’m gunna tell ya. Because I made this planet you see, with a buttload of species, none of which are humanoid because I’m so bloody tired of humanoids in scifi/fantasy. (You can make LITERALLY ANYTHING and you make a human looking thing- I just? No thank you. lol) In any case, I thought, in my fevered binge of all the Star Trek TV series, “Dude it’d be so cool if Qîélá was unified and part of the Federation.” So my self-indulgent alternate universe storyline came into being. Obviously, Qîélá in this universe has advanced technology and isn’t quite so archaic as depicted in the link, but all the species are still around, if cooperating rather than fighting. (They’d be a lot more advanced if they stopped fuckin’ fighting in the canon Qîélá verse, like, SO MUCH more.)
I got carried away and a lot of the senior staff are Qîélán, which likely wouldn’t actually happen but, like I said, I got carried away. The First Officer is a human though, and, wow, there are a lot of senior staff I hadn’t even thought of- now that I’m looking at the list- so I’ll try to throw in some other species. I want to draw the senior staff at least, but haha, a lot of the species from my planet I haven’t hammered out completely. Which is fine, this just means I have more reason too. (´∀`)
I’m trying to make this alternate universe follow reasonably closely the timeline of the TV series- everything’s basically the same, all the events of TNG, DS9, and VOY still take place, just add some new species fighting with and working for the Federation. As far as Qélï goes she was born in 2345 on Qîélá, but at 14 she did participated in a high school exchange program of sorts to Earth to finish her education and immediately joined Starfleet when she was old enough, having a desire to explore the galaxy. She chose to specialize in exobiology, minoring in xenology with a loose study of the other sciences pertaining to the study of alien worlds. She also enjoys exoanthropology and exoarchaeology, minor hobbies she studies on the side.
She fought in the Dominion War, and five years after distinguishing herself in battle she was promoted to Captain and given a ship an commission of exploration in the Gamma Quadrant (you know the Dominion is quieted down now, so tentative exploration seems likely). I like to think that she ended up in command of a ship during the war by the course of death of higher officers and did a really good job, thus the eventual promotion- something like that anyway. As well as being a wicked smart science lady she also takes no shit in ground combat, as you can see.
I’d like to eventually draw the rest of the senior staff of the Dorado, I already have a name for the First Officer, Commander James Ellison, Earth boy born and raised. The rest of the staff I have tentative ideas for, but James is the only other super-duper concrete dude.
THAT’S ALL I CAN THINK TO SAY SO THAT’S IT FOR NOW ~( ;▽; )~

There is this one species in Star Trek that is an anthro cat, I think they're called the caitian, something like that.

Yes! I was first introduced to them in Star Trek Online and they are swell. We need to see more of them!

The funny thing is that they came from the animated series, along with their evil cousins the Kzir, I think I spelt that right, who manage to piss off the Feds to the point of orbital bombardment. They, the Catian, was also the fifth species to join the Federation.
I think the reason why we don't see them in the shows is because it would cost to much in make up to do.

You know, I was watching Star Trek tonight and I was thinking..gee how many kinds of foreheads can they make? Because that's usually wear the alien starts and finishes. I wish they had gone in a more creative direction with their alien species.
Anyway, This is Awesome! I love it! And giiiirrrrl that lighting works. This is so dynamic. And actiony! Moment captured, moment captured. I want to do Star Trek art toooo.....boo. I'm tired. I type words.

lmao God that's the exact thought I had. And I tend to love above all the species that look the least human (Klingon, Cardassian, Ferengi, et c) because COME ON. Aliens need to look ALIEN, not "human with a crazy nose/forehead." I guess they had some limits with makeup to start with, but by DS9 they should be able to make some weirder stuff, y'know?
Thus, I shoved my very alien aliens into an alternate universe. |3
Thank you darlin, I'm pretty damn happy with it, even if it's not perfecto, but it's good enough. Even if I did forget the combadge. >:V
You should draw some arts of the Treks of the Stars though. Do it do it.

I will do Star Trek I think in future times. Hub-a-dubs actually bought me Photoshop for our anniversary, but I think my tablet is just bad. The pen still goes crazy whenever I try to use it. So I want a new one, but the one I want is like $200...sOoOo I will either lower my standards, or continue to wait lol.

You should get a Vistablet, mine cost $160 but that was with extra stuff, so just the tablet might be pretty cheap. I don't remember, it was years ago, and it's still a great tablet- only had to update drivers once in like 5 years~ (Unlike wacom, from what I here you have to update drivers a lot)
WHATEVER DUDE YOU KNOW YOU GOT PAPER TOO EH

LOL. Yea...you're right. My scanner is not hooked up however. Also at this point there's so much frustration trying to draw on paper because I'm so out of practice. It's a shame, really...
I'm definitely going to check out vistablet, because I was looking at wacom.

I know what you mean though, ugh, like sometimes I feel like I can only draw on paper but then I do and I'm like "I drew that too high and I can't move it.... I HAVE TO REDRAW IT >8V" annoying...
I use a PC though, I don't know if it will work differently on MAC if you happen to have one. I'm pretty sure last time we talked you had a PC. xD

Oh I know, or, I erase a ton but there are still dark smudges left on the paper which drives me nutso.
I actually took a gander at Vistablet which looked good, but the 12.1 in size they advertised was deceiving because the actual work space is much less than that, 9.5 x 5.5. It's also SUPER thin, which makes me nervous. Then I checked Wacom again and the price for the one I wanted dropped like $40 on amazon, so I may end up going with that one. However it's still $60 more than the Vistablet, also the size is smaller by an inch...but it is thicker which makes me feel better maybe? I guess I'm still not sure. Thinner would be better in terms of storage but in reading the reviews on one of their other models (VT) I learned it was...floppy? Like a mouse pad? Is yours like this? I don't exactly have a desk right now so that could be a problem for me if the VT 12in is the same way.
>_< *sigh* sorry for the rambling. I just want to make sure I will love whatever I get before I blow money on one.

Hm, we'll I've never had a problem with the thinness, even when I use it in my lap when I'm visiting the folks. They're pretty sturdy. But I do tend to use it flat on the desk 90% of the time just because I have the space and I find the quality of my drawing isn't as good if I can't use it on a flat surface. But that's just me. Mine isn't floppy. The PenPad looks like it might be the floppy one, and it's the smallest product so I don't think it should be a problem since you're looking at the 12". xD
Honestly, I'm a just a little biased about wacoms because the pens feel gross to me. The nibs are loose, at least that's how they feel, so they have too much give and change for me when the nib presses. Some people like that I guess. Vistablet pens the shape feels better in my hand and the nib is stiff so it doesn't wiggle around in the pen while I'm drawing like it feels with the wacom pen. idk, I'll sing the praises of Vistablet over wacom any day since I've been a loyal customer for over 5 years, I may not be the best source because I just think it's a better product. Wacom just happens to be more prolific, which doesn't necessarily mean better/good. xD ONLY MY OPINION THOUGH.
