"Quit it." he groaned, his lips trembling in the dim light. There was no reply, only a swift, sharp pain that struck the side of his face. He smoked alot, the boy noticed... his hands, when not beating him into the gravel below, always entertained a lit cigarette... This could explain his voice. It sounded like he had swallowed a thousand shards of broken glass... or perhaps he actually had. "Please..." he said again, his eyes flickering shut. This time, an answer was mumbled. "No. Much work left to do..." the man was stern in his answer. "So much work left... to do.my hand. my words.
