I'm not saying that's it's a bad thing to be trans.
What I'm saying is it's not a good thing, either. The point of coming out as trans is to move to the sexual assignment that matches their gender. A trans person going around saying they're a "tranny" is like a black person calling himself a Ni(...)er.
It cheapens us. A tranny is someone who just dresses, with no desire to correct gender, which is more than surgery.

on that behalf i would like to say thats from were im from its not uncommen that black persons refer to themself as Nigger, or greet eachother whit something around the lines of "how's it going Nigger?". as i see it a term is only as negative as intendet by whoever exclaimed it.

I don't think =gutterface meant to insult himself by calling him a tranny. I think it's more of a nickname since he himself is transgender.
like, think of it this way, instead of someone straight calling themselves "heterosexual" they call themselves straight.
gays dont really call themself "homosexual".
it's just a shortened version of the word.
a transgender person is someone whose soul is one gender but their body is another. surgery as an OPTIONAL treatment. if they dress to match the gender they feel, that is them expressing WHO they are. it's not cheap at all.
thats what I think about it. C:

His intention wasn't to insult himself. But he is insulting trans people in general.
We want to be accepted as who we are. Trangenderism isn't a lifestyle any more than homosexuality is.
Gay people are people like us, who happen to like the same gender.
Trans people are people like us, who happen to have been born the wrong sex.
Gay people either date other gays, or don't
Trans people either live as the gender they're born as, or don't.
Now, I want to clarify, I'm not saying we want our rights ignored. But we do not need a "revolution". This kind of image creates a gap between trans people and cisgenders. We don't need that gap.

why do you think he's insulting trans people? why would he do that if he's trans? <__<
I understand that gays and transgendered folk are no different from anyone else, I didnt think I needed that clarified.
I really dont think he's creating a gap between cisgendered and transgendered people, I think he's bringing attention to it. the fact of the matter is, this image is to bring attention to the bullying that causes deaths to LGBT kids. he's showing us that we need a revolution to stop the hate for good. I don't see why this image could possibly mean something bad towards trans folk or whatever else.
IMHO having his parents wear "my son is a tranny" shirts are more speaking down to society rather than to trans folk. like, "yeah, my son is a 'tranny'. yeah, my son's a 'fag'. but we're proud." kind of a thing. using those little derogatory terms to I guess emphasize how they AREN'T wrong, sending a message to anyone who will listen.
seems to me it's more a form of irony than anything, if you get what I mean.
it's interesting that you're seeing this piece at a completely different angle, but I don't see how it could be taken so negatively o,o

Well, I need to follow that up, because it was rather black and white.
I'm not saying it's easy to make that choice, and you can go from being closeted to being open about who you are. For some people, dressing is a first step, and can be an only step. Honestly, my issue isn't if shutter is Trans or not.
My issue is the image he is projecting, as I said, makes it seem as if we want to stand out. We don't.

I think you're missing the point. Usually when insulting terms are used like that in this context it tends to mean more that the world, in it's cruelty, may call them a 'tranny,' a very insulting word, but despite the world's perceptions, they are still these parents' child, and that they love and are proud of them even in the face of this negativity.
It's like when someone uses 'retarted' in a sentence and a parents might say "hey, watch it, my son is 'retarted'" No parent would actually call their mentally challenged kid 'retarted' its said like that to illustrate how cruel it sounds in lifht of the love they have for their kid. I hope this explination helps
