<3 I love this image soo much especially since it contains purple je je je ^___^ ,

Just want to voice out my opinion since everyone says Americans are very "judgmental" or the root of "ridicule"

If we can accept people for who they are it would be incredible but remember every one has come from a different background of nurturing and has been thought different customs , traditions & belief . That is why it's so tough to have equality for Americans since it's hard to get rid of what we've been thought since birth that maybe is different to another person across the world who has come to America . Another reason , why Some Americans are very open minded and others are very judgmental . Every day Americans are given a chance to see many races, religion, & sexual preferences , base from that we either open our minds accept people for who they are or built walls in our head and be ignorant to others . This as well occurs in other parts of the world But I don't know why "America" is consider the biggest target for intolerance ?

nice!

Most Christians, they believe that there should be no gay/bisexual/lesbian people, right? I go to church, so does everyone in my family, but I don't really give a damn to if my parents or anyone else in my family has anything to say about gay/bisexual or lesbian people. There's apparently a lesbian cpl at my school and my friend's best friend is gay and one of my friend's is bi & a some of my cousin's friends are bi too...Who cares?

We do need to focus on the allies as well, to show the critics that they're just not fighting GLBT's, but also all their friends, families, neighbors, etc. This picture does just that in a way that can only be described as TRUE ART. Interesting pic. I hope you won't think poorly of me, because I have nothing against you personally. It's just that I don't understand the prospect of being gay or tranny and probably never will. I can't accept something that I don't understand, but I can tolerate it. In the great country of America, you are free to practice whatever you think feels right. Just don't demand that everybody accept/understand it because that's being intolerant of other people's right not to approve of something. We are one of the only countries in the world that allows this level of freedom. I would like all the America bashers out there to take note of this fact. We are not perfect, but at least we are trying! What are you doing? Pointing out someone else's faults when you could spending that time getting rid of yours! That's all I have to say! I still approve of your creativity and wish you all the best with your "mission".

No offense, but you're very wrong about America being the only country with this freedom.
[link]
I'd link you to the Russian news sites that originally talk of it, but I don't imagine everyone can read Cyrillic.

There are all sorts of people all over the entire planet, and America is not the only country in which you will find them expressing this freedom in. England, Ireland, Russia, France, and many many European countries have gay clubs, bars, events, and parades. Don't forget Asia, where Japan, Korea, and many others have rock groups that dress like women, a large inspiration to many gays and transsexuals.
Speaking from experience...I just had to correct you. Nothing personal.

I didn't say only. I said one of the only. And I think that out of all those countries, unless I'm mistaken, we have one of the greatest tolerances for this sort of thing. That's all I was trying to say. I wasn't trying to put other countries down. I was trying to put America up in the face of people who really don't know and don't care how great America is.

Vasilisa-Uzhasnaja In reply to silverhedgehog-99 [2010-10-24 00:31:29 +0000 UTC]

I'm sorry, speaking as someone who was raised in a different country, you're still very wrong. America is no greater than any other country, if not very much less great. You're speaking to someone with a very proud heritage, who doesn't care about America in the least. I have lived in America long enough to say I do not like it freely, and have been shown enough injustice and hatred for being 'foreign' than you can imagine. America likes those that are ignorant, that deny themselves. America HATES gays as much as any other country. That whole 'freedom of expression' thing is hardly ever taken seriously, unless someone feels like burning a flag or holding a Neo-Nazi march.

If America has such a 'great tolerance' as you say, for this sort of thing, homosexuality and what have you, then WHY is the issue of gay marriage and acceptance such a neverending political issue? This is a very Christian country, and not the good kind of Christian. Why do you think this person put up a photograph like this if it were such an acceptable thing? Why would we need a revolution if it were a-ok to be a gay and no one had any trouble at all? I have yet to see another country that actually pickets the funerals of soldiers with 'GOD HATES FAGS' and other assorted pleasantries.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

silverhedgehog-99 In reply to Vasilisa-Uzhasnaja [2010-10-24 02:06:25 +0000 UTC]

Do we kill or imprison gays? No, we don't. In Islamic countries, China, and previously in Nazi Germany, Gays were/are executed and jailed without any outcry at all. Oh, and let's add Africa while we're at it.

The reason that gay marriage and acceptance are still such huge issues is because they are TOLERATED, not accepted. I do not accept homosexuality and never will and that is my right as an American. That doesn't mean I (or most people like me) hate gay people. I;ve met many nice gay people, and I accept them as people, but I don't accept their lifestyle. See what I mean? It's no different than an atheist tolerating a religious person, but not accepting their religion.

I don't agree with the people that have "GOD HATES FAGS' signs or whatever. I believe that God loves all his creations, and so we should too. That doesn't mean we have to force the beliefs, standards and deviations of a minority onto an entire society to be "fair". I'll say it first: Life's not fair! People make the choice to be gay or the choice to not be gay. Each choice has consequences. I don't believe that its a medical imbalance. I believe that gay is an ideology. If you're not prepared for the consequences, don't make the choice!

Another thing: Gay marriage is fine and all, but I don't believe that gay people should receive marriage benefits primarily for one reason: They can't make children! A man and a woman together are necessary to continue human life, so naturally they should get incentives to marry and continue the species. Plus, I believe that a man and a woman create a healthy balance (under ideal circumstances) of attitudes and advice to help raise their child properly. Two men together or two women just doesn't seem to reassure me that much that their "adopted" child will turn out correctly.

As for you not liking or caring about America at all, I'm very sorry to hear that. It begs the question, "why did you live there at all?" I guess it just takes a native American (and I don't mean as in Indians) to appreciate what America does for the world. And we are certainly ignorant on some things, but so are citizens of every nation! And some countries are more ignorant than us! So please cut the "high and mighty" crap! I assure you, it doesn't impress me! Hell, depending on what country is your native country, it's probably thanks to America that it is free or even still around at all!

Where do you think half of the free nations on this earth would be were it not for our protection? Under Russia or China's thumb, that's where! In case you haven't noticed, we aren't imperialists anymore! We do not enslave peoples to oppressive ideologies, we promote freedom for all nations! I assure you, the world would look a hell of a lot worse if we actually decided to flex our power and start aggressively invading nations!

That all being said, I hope we can come to an agreement on at least one issue at hand here. I love discussions like these and don't get to have them enough, so if I sound angry or insulting by what I've written here, I apologize! I only wish to debate, not insult or argue. Oh, and as for the injustice and hatred that has been shown to you, I sincerely apologize. I assure you, a lot of us aren't like that. I certainly would never do that to you or anyone without just cause. So, sorry!

I'm glad you're of the people that can tolerate without being hateful. I understand your perspective and don't wish to challenge it. It's everyone's right to accept or not accept, just not to terrorize.
Many people live in America not of their own free will. Not all of us have the resources to get back to our native countries.

By all means, Russia and Ukraine have been strong countries for many centuries, far older than America, and completely independent of America's 'wonderfullness.' It is in NO WAY thanks to America that either of them are still around. They have proud histories and have made enormous contributions to the world of science, art, literature, what have you. All that Americans can say to me about my heritage is 'you filthy red Commie bastard.' Real nice, huh. The downfall of the Soviet Union was in not way ANY PART of America's doing. Russians and Ukrainians NEED no protection from America, nor freaking want it. If I am not mistaken, they have been in competition against one another for forever. It was not thanks to America that Russia made it to space first, it was not thanks to them that Dostoevsky or Tolstoy wrote their world famous books. Please do not accuse me of acting 'high and mighty' when you are doing the same. I do not in any way consider my countries or origin to be superior to that of any other nation, other than a country that borrows from other cultures and claims it as their own. America did not invent pizza, Italy did. Americans originated from the United Kingdom. Americans use technology from Japan, cars from Germany, products made in China, and so on and so forth. Because I do not agree with you that America is the most splendid country on earth does not make me ignorant, it makes me proud of my own. Most Americans I have encountered are ashamed of their heritage, and make me feel like I'm some sort of scum of the earth for daring to not give a shit.

America does not own the planet. It is because it flexes its mighty muscles that so many terrorists love to bomb the shit out of the country. America is not the entire planet. The combined world forces have the power to obliterate the entire country with their nuclear weapons if America EVER decided to aggressively invade other nations. Millions will die, all because America thinks it has the biggest dick. Russia has had many many revolutions, all led by the people, people who would rather give their lives than live in oppression. I have relations that died protecting their country and heritage from oppression, from the Russian Revolution to Hitler's invasion. Germany believed it could own the world too, and did they succeed? However, Germany has since earned back the respect of the world. America is among one of the most hated countries, if not THE most hated, in all of the planet. People do not like being told that someone, a complete ignorant stranger, a country still in its infancy, decided that they OWN everything in the planet. If that is how you see America, then it is a barbarian. If that is something to be proud of then you've definitely got me lost.

I am not insulting either, and I might 'debate' a little more vehemently than needed, but I take a lot of personal fire with me in my arguments. I am in no way an ignorant close-minded patriot. I respect all cultures, and do not judge. But my family and I have experienced so much cruelty at the hands of Americans who couldn't let us live in peace, telling us to 'go back to our own country' when all we wanted to do was live peacefully among people like everyone else. I used to believe that America was amazing because of all the cultures and different backgrounds, that it was all about love and acceptance. Where I lived, it was hatred and racism. What I couldn't understand was, I wasn't black, or visibly Jewish, or Asian, or any other obvious heritage that would drive racist pigs blind with hatred. I am pale, I dress unlike others do, all I do is speak Russian with my family and friends. And I had rocks thrown at myself and my little brother for not speaking English, and much worse.

All countries are stuck up and proud, it is true. Russians can be as racist as anyone, especially against Jews and blacks. I do not think that is right, I think it is sick. It is not to do with the culture, but the individuals. But I was never treated as an equal in America, as I was back home. I was treated like a parasite that was infecting the purity of the community. I am proud of my heritage not because I think of it as superior, but because I truly love it with all of my heart, and the many caring people that do exist within it. My family lives there, and I still live in America, and I want more than anything to return.

*deep exhale*,
I'm not really sure how best to debate you on these points over deviantart. You being Russian makes a whole lot of sense for your point of view. Not insulting your point of view, it just explains a lot. I'm well aware that the Russians have contributed much to the world, and I'm also aware that they, particularly its government, have taken much away from it. Just out of curiosity, are you a communist? Do you believe in communism? If you do, I'm afraid I'm going to have a hard time indeed trying to get you to see things the way I see them.

Again, I'm very sorry about your treatment here. I only wish I could have met you during that hard time to try to convince you otherwise that we are a hateful, racist country. We aren't. There are racists in this country, but they do not represent our country under any circumstances. I sense much anger within your words, and I am a little hurt that you would insinuate that all Americans care about is their figurative "dick size". We are at heart, a humble but powerful nation. Many of our conflicts that we have been villified for we did not start, yet were stuck with the unfortunate duty of finishing them. We don't WANT to own the planet. We cannot understand why everyone thinks all we are good for is ruining other countries and being oppressive tyrants. There is absolutely no historic evidence to back up this theory.

I hope you realize by now that I am not a "typical American". Our country currently has many faults, and I want to help fix them. I am just a young, proud American patriot who doesn't see the need to apologize for our every mistake, particularly ones we have never committed. I am all for learning from our mistakes though. By the way, I happen to love Russian Classical music, particularly Tchaikovsky and Prokofiev and I've admired a few pieces of Russian Art. I have also read Tolstoy a little and think him one of the greatest philosophers in the world. So as you see, I am not intolerant of your culture. I do not support your government, though. I have never seen its appeal, and as you might have guessed, I am no supporter of socialism or communism. We could have a whole other discussion about that if you want.

But, keep talking. I like this. It makes me feel like I have someone to have an intelligent conversation with. You can probably believe how hard people like that are to find in my generation especially lol. But please, can we do without the dirty words and heated rhetoric? As I've said, I don't want an argument, just a debate.

On that note, since this is debate has become rather unrelated to the source material (this deviation), I think we should leave it alone here and continue it in private, if that's alright with you. Like in a Note, instant message, or email, whichever.
