Description Full view or every pie you eat for a month will be marmite pie!!!

ok, so I had been splitting my brain over a way of making isometric stuff work, and I got it down. still a little buggy but there you go. there is nothing to do yet, just run along and check out the fancy (sort of) z-sorting and the randomly generated terrain.

you can run left and right using the arrow keys and don't go whining at me that you dissapear if you run off the edge, I know and I'll fix it some other time k

have fun

toolz used:
3DsMax, for the character
Flash, for code and all other (crappy) graffix

cool, what functions did you use in action script to pull this off?

GuyFlash In reply to NHT123 [2006-04-18 09:27:56 +0000 UTC]

err, not anything special really... actually I don't even think I have any custom ones in at all...

lol pretty cool, i've been thinking of doing some 3d stuff in flash for a while and now i've got some time i might try it.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

GuyFlash In reply to titanius [2006-04-18 09:29:03 +0000 UTC]

you should, theres so many types of games that work well in isometric... well, not so many, but you could make some pretty cool platform games and adventure games

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

titanius In reply to GuyFlash [2006-04-21 13:13:54 +0000 UTC]

yea i've got a cool idea but the problem is that i suck at modelling with 3ds so it will take ages and still not look good

ArtguyChoz [2006-04-18 00:41:17 +0000 UTC]

if you do make this into an actual game, put it to the song Praise You by fatboy slim.

O yeah i forgot.

<3 this thing.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

GuyFlash In reply to ArtguyChoz [2006-04-18 02:42:25 +0000 UTC]

lol, unfortunately i don't got the rights to the song, i'll throw in a mute button so you can play the game to it tho

👍: 0 ⏩: 2

ArtguyChoz In reply to GuyFlash [2006-04-18 06:57:46 +0000 UTC]

oh yeah you should make him able to jump but make him super light or something so he floats gently down.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

GuyFlash In reply to ArtguyChoz [2006-04-18 09:33:05 +0000 UTC]

well I've got him coded to jump now but I had to make him fall fairly quickly, as in the new engine he runs pretty fast and I want him to be able to jump over two tiles at a time

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

ArtguyChoz In reply to GuyFlash [2006-04-19 03:23:47 +0000 UTC]

fair enough. you should put in a "leisure mode" or something with slow running and parachuting.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

GuyFlash In reply to ArtguyChoz [2006-04-19 10:56:14 +0000 UTC]

hehe, parachouting... I'll look into it

GuyFlash In reply to UTGrim [2006-04-17 22:25:28 +0000 UTC]

hehe, i will probobally try and make it work that way later, I'm having a little lag this way

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

UTGrim In reply to GuyFlash [2006-04-17 23:47:56 +0000 UTC]

Bah, lag sucks

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

GuyFlash In reply to UTGrim [2006-04-18 02:43:39 +0000 UTC]

lag is the name of the monster that lives in the cables between my pc and moniter, eating any stray frames that pass by...

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

UTGrim In reply to GuyFlash [2006-04-18 03:03:17 +0000 UTC]

That should be made into a story. "And the brave scriptor slew the lag monster with his optimized script and coded happily ever after. THE END"

very interesting.

you should add a 1px overlap on the tiles so you don't see any seams.

His run is hilarious. Not bad at all. I've only dabbled a bit in tile based games, I've never done any isometric stuff though. How did you convert the 3dMax character into a vector animation? Did you just make a raster animation and convert it through flash?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

GuyFlash In reply to TimME [2006-04-17 13:50:12 +0000 UTC]

yep, i just did a bitmap trace for each frame of the render. tiny filesizes
