First of all, Happy New Years everyone! Since it’s 2024, I felt obliged to make a third attempt at a design for my favourite monster, Godzilla. This time around I wanted to aim for a more ominous and horrific route for the character, true to his roots. In my past attempts to create my own Godzilla, I never developed the patience, energy and confidence to do so.

As evident of said route, I’m putting my spin on a darker and scarier appearance for Godzilla. What I’m aiming for is something similar to Shin, albeit doing my own thing. In particular, I’ve decided to go in the uncanny valley route. As you can see, I have intentionally made his head shaped like a mushroom cloud, paying homage to unused concept art from 1954. In addition, I also plan to make his entire skin looked charred and disfigured, much like a real bomb victim. His right side was on the receiving end of the atomic blast that mutated him, partially destroying his face. He left with exposed molar teeth and a single eye. So far, I have only finished line-art for the head, but hopefully I can pull off satisfying results soon.

If anyone is willing to give suggestions and feedback, I’ll gladly hear it out. So long as you keep a respectful manner. Happy forthcoming anniversary Godzilla. Let’s hope to another successful 70 years. Guyverman signing out.
