Description Hi!

As you can see here, I've finally to draw a picture of the King of the monsters himself for the first time since 2006 (hence this deviation's title), Godzilla!

This is my own rendition of Godzilla similar to the one I made with Gamera a while back.

For this design, I've combined features of the original 1954 Godzilla, along with the unused Debont Godzilla design. I wanted to make him look realistic and anatomically correct, but at the same time, I tried to stay away from the "raptorization" technique (alas Godzilla '98) people often use to redesign kaiju with usually controversial results. So instead of making his body proportioned like a theropod, so I made it more like that of an Iguanadon to keep in touch with the ideology that he's basically supposed to be a chimera of different Dinosaur species.

Additionally, I've decided to make his outer skin more polychromatic, like that of most reptiles in order to give a more life-like touch to his appearance. The reason why I've chosen a brownish color for the skin is because the original Godzilla suit in the 1954 was actually painted brown.

man dude you put ALOT of detail in this! lol i'm starting to feel lazy hahaha XD

but i dig the '54 remake with the stripes on the skin. lol i did that too with my redesigns! i think it makes it more predatory like! XD Godzilla would be a carnivore most likely so stripes should come natural!

Yes, as soon as I saw the pic, my brain said "Iguanodon!" So you're right on, there. I like the color and the design of the upper body. I have a quibble with the feet, because I don't think something as heavy as Godzilla would walk on its toes. Elephants don't, and while many dinos did, the big sauropods didn't do it with their hind feet nearly to that extent. Godzilla, of course, far outweighs any dinosaur. So I think a larger, flatter foot works best for the Big G.

Well maybe his didgits are just super-strong and re-inorced.

Yes, this design of Godzilla has the same proportions as Iguanodon.

Well Theropod Dinosaurs and birds in real-life are digitigrade.

Interesting. I see that you went very dinosaurian with the color scheme. It actually works here.

And thanks for your kind words on mine as well.

Pretty effective concept wise. I would have increased the length of the tail to make it a viable weapon. A long bludgeoning tail has always been one of Godzilla's main points, its where the stego in him comes in aside from the spines. Aside from the botched prespective of the left claw fingers, this is a good design. You made a great point about having more variation in Godzilla's skin tone though most people excuse his single hue hide as a result of his mutation like everything else.

Thanks!

As for the tail, you may remember that the tail in 1954 was kinda short.

RenDragonClaw In reply to Guyverman [2010-01-28 20:44:03 +0000 UTC]

It was short but not THAT short lol. I distinctly remember it being able to swipe which Iguanodon style tails weren't really able to do. They could help in a body check at best due to how wide they were. Either way, in this case it probably just needs some more mid length so it can swipe.
