Description Update: My 4th DD!

Thanks a bunch to =kuma-x for the suggestion and to ^Anoya for the feature! Very kind of you both!

Thanks for all the comments and support on this one guys. Things like this keep dA good fun for those who persist through the quiet times.

Yep, another great title.

8 sec. Custom white balance.

We spotted this on the way home from a day of swimming and hiking in Litchfield National Park. This place is just immense and full of waterfalls and watering holes. Apparently the park rangers burn out dead wood and shrubbery this time of the year, right after the rainy season, to help minimize forest fires later in the season. A pretty cool sight to stumble across in the middle of nowhere! Had to stop for a quick snap.

All of the different shades of orange in this makes me want to explode. It's that awesome. The composition is perfect too, I love the smaller tree in the middle. Beautiful shot!

Gee, I'm a little late commenting on this. It is a wonderful capture of a potentially devastating event. Given the horrible fires in Australia a couple of years ago, I would think your heart was in your throat when you first saw it. The colors are truly awesome. The orange backlighting gives the image an otherworldly aspect. Well done.

This is awesome Gary, I love the colors and the semi-silhouetted look of the trees. The centering of the small tree is perfect, and the vignetting helps focus it very nicely. Great shot overall

What an impressive photo! So it was pitch black night with the only light coming from the fire? Love the colors, and that arc opening on the center tree! Looks so designed, like it could be the stage for a shadow play :]

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

GVA In reply to Ratafluke [2008-05-16 02:08:17 +0000 UTC]

Thanks mate! Yep, it was pitch black except for the fire. Was a bit tricky composing the shot as it was almost impossible to see anything through the viewfinder. The long exposure and high ISO helped make it MUCH clearer.

I'm surprised there was practically no movement in the trees for those 8 seconds. But I suppose they would intentionally pick the night with the lest wind, or obvious reasons.

Great colours in this. Love the trees highlighted to the far left and right of the frame. They add a lot of depth to it, and create the effect that they're circling that one tree right in the centre.

GVA In reply to dtownley1 [2008-05-16 01:59:38 +0000 UTC]

Yep, it was a very still night indeed. I like to think of all those other trees as the family protecting the baby in the middle Thanks for the detailed comment!
