Hiro had to fight to keep his heart from skittering up his throat and out of his mouth. Despite everything, he had to keep from panicking and play dumb. "W-what do you mean?"

"Don't play dumb with me," growled Yukari (Hiro mentally cringed). "I know you're involved in what happened to me and Asagi a week ago. I still have your text messages from her phone. You were the only other person in here after school ended besides Asagi and I. What did you do to us?"

He would not panic, no matter how bad it seemed. He needed to gauge how much she recalled. "I'm serious, Yukari. I was at home. I did my work in here, found Asagi's phone and took it with me to keep anyone else from taking it. Later, I dropped Asagi's phone off in front of her apartment when I realized she wouldn't be back the next day. That's all."

Yukari scrunched up her nose, not looking like she bought it. As she opened her mouth, Hiro interjected. "What happened, anyway? Were both of you hurt? I haven't seen either of you until today. I heard there was some sort of accident..."

There was a long, uncomfortable pause. Yukari's mouth was a hard, thin line. Hiro had to tell himself to breathe.

Finally Yukari relented, looking away as she spoke. "I don't... really remember all of it. I went back to school after I got your message to get Asagi's bag. I came in here and then..." She sighed. "I woke up in the Nurse's office the next morning with Asagi. She had a big concussion but I was just bruised."

The guilt returned even as Hiro blinked: he had thought they would have woken up in the classroom in the middle of the night, at least. "Where did they find you?"

"In here," Yukari replied shortly, her cheeks reddening a little.

"How-"

"How is beside the point!" Yukari nearly shouted. She took couple of deep, calming breaths, and then returned to her smoldering stare. "I'm convinced it wasn't just an accident, that we didn't just hit our heads or something. Someone... did something to us, and we're lucky nothing worse happened. Asagi is still shaken up, and those other girls were pulled out by parents to scared to do a proper school investigation, but I am not going to just let this slide. If some weirdo creep-ass stalker is around here, I'm going to find out who it is."
