In the remnants a system, long ago shattered by the explosion of its sun, two life pods lay embedded in one of the fragments. The pods have lay here for over a century, rotating to face the dying star a few hours at a time allowing it to draw power from the stellar remnant to maintain their functions. They would have remained here undisturbed until the remains of the star cooled and died if not for the ship surveying the system detecting its faint energy signature.
