anywho. i relate way too much to this comic. i see rig as myself, chronically ill, and the deadwood tree as my medication/treatment. i cannot be without my "deadwood," even if my "deadwood" hurts me. a lot of the things rig says closely echo what i've said/thought about. so it's super cool to see this in a comic. it both depresses me and helps me feel less alone at the same time?? dunno why lmao. THANK YOU SONGDOG FOR MAKING THIS COMIC! I am so happy I discovered you! Keep up the hard work!

i felt both versions were necessary to upload because i, the artist, really wanted the viewer to see the art the way i intended it... which gets skewed from screen to screen. when i looked at my art on my phone, Rig was waaaay too rich brown. so the instagram image is perfect for mobile users because it looks almost the same as it is on my laptop
you'll know if you have a screen similar to my computer screen if the Instagram image is way too blue- almost as if i put a blue filter over it. if this is the case for you, the original image, "I refuse to crumble into nothing," will have the proper saturation and cool colors and you don't needa reference the instagram version to understand which colors were supposed to be seen

i'm happy u like my art ^-^ eeeeeeeee i feel like i'm FINALLY finding a style of mine that works well with digital art. traditional will always be my preference, but the convenience of digital will always cause me to make more digital than traditional art. lol the more of the deadwood comic that comes out, the more (almost creepy) reflections of my life i see in it.

Yeah, deer are hard for me since I don't draw them much either. But not as hard as horses xD
ooof, I've been there before. I was doing a commission not too long ago and I ended up with like 3 different fully-lined linearts before I found one that looked good to me. The commissioner liked all of them so I sent him all of them xD (He's a friend of mine and he likes pretty much everything I draw xD So it was me being picky, not him)

Ah she's so epic and defiant looking! Very firm pose, something about it kind of reminds me of those old manga from the early 90's and 80's!
I don't go into stories trying to make direct parallels to real-life things, but I do like to write emotionally-adjacent. I'm glad people have been able to relate to Rig, despite everything else around her. She's definitely morally questionable and I can't say I recommend her solution of making pacts with demons and sacrificing small animals, but I never thought of deadwood as a metaphor for like, treatment itself. Not a perfect metaphor but the idea of a medicine that comes with sacrifice. Thank you for sharing your personal story with me, it means a lot to me

Thanks!!! And I like that you didn't actually go into stories outwardly trying to make them relatable. I find when stories just tell a good tale and don't intend to be relatable, it feels even more relatable to those who happen to match up with it (even if just a little!). Makes it special and unique imo. Glad you like this piece 😁
