Wonderful piece, and excellent timing, posting it then!
I love the monochrome photograph. I'm not sure it would work the same with the green needles. I can't think of anything better, though. All I came up with was "contemplating conifers" which sounds kind of corny to me.

the black-and-white is mysterious, though it kind of drowned the green color in the poem.

Hmmm... I wonder how it would look with the green of the needles left and the rest in gray..... Now you have me thinking. I have written this poem a hundred times, and it is still not right. I even called the evergreens "perpetual trees"
