Description
HAY GUYSI'VE REPLACED MY BLOOD WITH POKEMON
Anyway, I hate the lantern.
As for backstory: when playing Zelda games for the first time, something I would always end up doing was trying to predict what item I'd find during my dungeon-crawling adventures. you know, like how if there's a bunch of Hookshot targets, it's usually the Hookshot. Sometimes there are woeful disappointments, however, like expecting to get an ancient instrument of powerful incendiary magic and finding the freaking lantern instead.
I mean it's not even a weapon.

I know, right? At least in A Link to the Past, the lantern actually serves a purpose AND can be a makeshift weapon! At least until you get the Fire Rod, but you get my point! It seems like it's becoming a trend in adventure games in general to give you an item and then relegate it to one dungeon, basically making it a giant glorified paperweight for the rest of the game...

the lantern was a difficult tool (I, too, cannot bring myself to call it weapon) to master
but after my third attempt at the giant octorock I was quite proficient with it!
(damn thing was the toughest boss in the game)

you beat a late game dungeon to receive an item that's usually given near the start of the game, CONGLATURATIONS!

I remember playing Minish Cap and being really pissed, especially since it's a later dungeon

Yeah. Next to probably the Biggoron's knife the lantern is the lamest "weapon" in the Zelda series ever. Great deviation I mean like...how many Zelda games have you played anyways?!? Oh, and I actually fell into a pit in the Temple of Droplets once. I was sliding on the ice and right before I was about to turn a corner, Ezlo started yammering on about something. I went all Kaepora Gaebora on dat' text and next thing you know it, I didn't see the end and I slid into a pit!!! :C

I love Ezlo. He's a birdy hat.
Now if only he could tell me how to get past the wind temple. *sigh*

You could get an ancient Magical rod which was capable of letting you cast powerful Fire spells and destroy enemies with ease like a powerful Sorcerer.
Instead you get a puny item you should be able to buy at any market or store around.

my reaction as well.
Epic drawing as always.
The most annoying part is there's evidence they were originally intending to put it in- the Ice Wizrobe figurine actually says "It's weak to fire so hit it with you Fire Rod"
Goddammit Capcom why'd you take it out *sulks*

ha, true
Someone might have already pointed out, but the lantern is pretty cool in the games with spreadable fire (four-swords, and [I think] minish cap). I wish all zelda games have fire that spreads over grass

Lol, so true...
How do they expect Link to melt a block of ice the size of an overly obese man in a split second? That's not possible! A lantern of that size would take hours to melt a chunk that big.
Are we saying Link has some sort of "magic lantern" that defies temperature, and the flow of time?? In that case, where's the magic bar? Are we to expect that Link is now a wizard? That he can somehow heat a lantern up to ridiculous heats, whilst still being able to hold on to the thing? Or even stand within 15 years of, for that matter!
I think not!

the cane of paaci isn't a weopen either. and you only use it like five times in the level and the u use it for flipping over vases. They've got some pretty lame stuff in Minish cap, but then again you do get some pretty awesome abilities. the roc's cape is awesome. They brought back the roc's feather but they made it better!

I remember this game! I'd get really disappointed after fighting my way through a bunch of monsters, losing almost all of my life except half a heart, and opening a treasure chest... Only to find a COMPASS. xD
(I lost it before I could finish it though... The Minish Cap was one of the best Zelda games next to Majora's Mask and Ocarina of Time.)
