The 'Perun' class space shuttle was the vehicle that made the success of the 'Human Mass Colonization Program' (HMCP). In 2092 after the sudden emerging of the Space Engine drive technology and the fusion reactor, the UN made the colonization of the other planets inside the Solar System a priority thus starting the HMCP and the 'New space race' in which the biggest and most powerful tech corporations in the world would compete to make a new spaceship. The spaceship had to be able to operate independently from big space stations, to have large passenger capacity and to incorporate the most advanced tech of the time. Two veteran space tech organizations that made a coalition turned to the past and looked at the old American space shuttle and Russian 'Buran' space shuttle designs to develop their spaceship. Their new space shuttle was named after the Slavic god of thunder - Perun. It had the most powerful engines ever mounted on a space shuttle before, being capable of accelerating beyond Earth's atmosphere without the help of big rockets. The new prototype also was a lot bigger and had a huge wingspan. The shuttle had enough space to carry provisions, a ground 4 - seat rover vehicle, repair parts and a group of twenty astronauts. It also incorporated the most advanced computer systems at the time including the new space engine. The spacecraft could also connect with space stations if needed. The project was very ambitious and faced lots of difficulties along the way. In the beginning, there were many technological failures and many skeptic opinions as well. Experts didn't believe that such a project could succeed. They thought that space shuttles couldn't have a future as they were redundant relics of the Cold War which should better be left in the past. Despite the odds, however, the 'Perun' turned out to be the most successful project in the space race. After the UN greenlit the prototype the first long-range flight would soon begin. Not long after the new spaceship proved its prowess to humanity, mass production started and the Mass Launch Event in 2123 was initiated. As time went on more and more missions were to be launched out of the Solar System. In the end, the 'Perun' space shuttles proved to be the most reliable spaceships and served humanity for a long time. After the Fossil War in 2157, the model was to have three main modifications - civilian spaceship for colonization purposes, military space corvette for patrol operations, and military flying drone deploying platform (FRDP) with titanium strengthened landing gear.
