To be honest, these seem more like "claws" to me since they will function as claws rather then Katars.
Nevertheless an AMAZING piece! At first I could not tell the difference from reality until I read your comment.
You are truly amazing with 3D MAX
Keep up the good work ^^

The materials you used and the quality of the render are exquisite, major props on that one... It looks almost real! GREAT WORK!

Thanks Seb, really feels great to get back into 3D, and to do something different for once.

Wow, that's really good. o_o
How'd you get the textures looking like that?

The model itself actually has a multi/subobject material on it, meaning I can assign a lot of materials to different values, then assigning those values to certain polygons. Anyways, I used a raytrace base material with no glossiness or specular level with a diffuse color of black and reflection color of dark grey. The dark grey controls how light or dark the silvery color is on the model itself. The ground also has a slight reflective property to it, which is why you can see a bit of a reflection. Lastly, I used HDRI images in the environment. It's the HDRI's that make up most of "textures" and generates all of those realistic properties.
All in all, I actually used a tutorial from splutterfish/brazil: [link] but I had to make some modifications to make it fit with Vray, and setup a few settings in Vray itself. I might make a tutorial about it later on, not sure though, since there aren't very many tutorials on HDRI's and it seems to be growing with interest now a days.

This is a wonderful 3-D piece! I really like the reflections on the metal and the background beneath it.
