Oyuki (お雪): The Ghost of Oyuki (幽霊図-お雪の幻) is the name of the most famous Japanese ghost painting, done by Maruyama Oukyo (円山応挙), the well-known and talented artist back in Edo period. The back story of this masterpiece is; Long time ago there was a young artist who had a mistress, called Oyuki. She worked as a geisha in Otsu city (now the capital city of Shiga prefecture). The artist loved her and mourned her deeply after she died at the young age. One night, he was woken up by eerie atmosphere in his room. Then he saw Oyuki was at the edge of his bed, giving him a faint smile before disappeared completely. The young artist woke up and began to draw what he saw. The completed art became the model of Japanese ghosts from that time on; wearing white or pale colored robe, nearly transparent, floating and lack of lower body, including disheveled long black hair.
