Oomukade (大百足): Oomukade is the old giant centipede which turned to be "obake" after living for hundreds years. It could disguise itself as human occasionally and could enlarge its size to as large as mountain. In one of the myth, it was said that the breath of this yokai was extremely venomous and could create venomous mist surrounding mountains, killing every living things including minor yokai. It was so scary that even dragons feared it. Without knowing its weakness, it was impossible to be killed.

There was a tale about the famous warrior in Heian period, Fujiwara no Hidesato (藤原秀郷) encountering the giant Oomukade. One day, Hidesato came to the bridge, called Seta no Karahashi (瀬田之唐橋; now at Otsu city, Shiga Prefecture). He found a giant serpent lying on the bridge and refusing to move. He didn't fear of serpent, so he crossed the bridge by stepping on the snake's body. After he was across there, the snake transformed itself to be a noble woman. She introduced herself as the daughter of the dragon king who resided in Lake Biwa. She was impressed by the braveness of him and asked Hidesato for helps from Oomukade who lived on Mount Mikami and had been tormenting them since long. He agreed with her and went to the mountain alone. Soon, he found a giant centipede coiling around the mountain peak while emitting venomous mist from its mouth. Hidesato decided to fire his arrows at it but they couldn't pierce its body. He then used his saliva coat the tip of the arrow for his last try. This time...the centipede screamed out. The arrow pierced its eye and the saliva of human was fatal for it. Oomukade died and turned to dust immediately. The dragon king was grateful to this brave warrior. He and his daughter gave him many magical tools and also told him the way to defeat Taira no Masakado (平将門) who was said to be impossible to fight with due to his black magic practice.
