Description
Hashihime (橋姫): Hashihime (literally "Bridge Maiden") first appeared in Heian era's literature and the most known was from Murasaki Shikibu's the Tale of Genji. There has a tale about her origin; when Hashihime was still a human, she used to be a wife who was waiting for her husband every night at a bridge in Uji. One day, she saw her husband passed by with an unknown woman who seemed to be the new lover. The wife became jealous and furious and turned to be a demon. She haunted the bridge and practiced "Ushi Koku No Mairi" (丑の刻参り) which was one of the most dreadful spells to curse her husband and his new lover. According to other tales, sometime she appeared as a deity who took care of the old bridge. If someone praised other bridge when he/she was near Hashihime's bridge, she would become jealous and curse them. Because of the fear, people who live around Hashihime's bridge would pay respect when they went across it.(From WMA-024-橋姫)

Her glare...! Although everything about this piece is so chillingly frightening, one can't look away once one sees her eyes ...!
I know I say things like this often regarding your peerless Yokai art series, but I think being killed by someone as beautiful as her wouldn't be a nasty experience...! If one could befriend her and join her under the bridge forever after, it may be even better! (Wouldn't you agree?)
Your Yokai are just as fearsome as their models would be, but at the same time, so beautiful and captivating ...!

OMG!!! Thank you so much for such a compliment!!! I'm so glad to hear it from you (TvT)
Anyway, I agree that it isn't a bad idea to join such a beautiful being but as I heard from many folklore. Ayakashi or the beings from the another side resides in their own dimension which is different from the place to go when human dies. So if we die, it might turn to be that we go different place or the scarier possibility...be consumed by her or other yokai XD I think I'll live longer to tell more tales about them. Hehehe...

I'm disappointed in myself because I always cannot express enough my utter admiration for your art, really...!
You're so knowledgeable about Yokai! I didn't know that they inhabit another dimension! And if then, I agree with you that I'd rather get away after observing their beautiful appearance hiding behind a rock or something, than be eaten alive!

Actually, It's not just you XD Me too... I'm really bad at interaction with other people and also praise other (or give a decent comment). So please don't be disappointed in yourself, my friend.

How scary! I've read up on that curse and I realized I've seen it in so much japan horror but never knew the name of the thing they were doing with the nails into the straw doll. Some like Fatal Frame 5 or Junji Ito's works to name a few. Water and long haired women with ungodly grudges are my worst supernatural fear. Even the grudge series thats a nightmare!

The curse with using the straw doll and nails which appears often in anime, actually is this curse "Ushi Koki No Mairi" XD The same curse as what Hashihime does when she is jealous. I'll write the details how to practice this in the future work. Hehehe...

Beautiful!
By the way, we happen to draw Hashihime around the same time! Great coincidences, this folktale needs more love Yours is far scarier tho

Thank you so much! (>v<)
I saw your Hashihime too. Very impressive artwork!
I totally agree. Japanese folklore needs more love and happiness. Actually, there has even scarier story such Kurozuka, Urikohime and Amanojaku, Yotsuya Kaidan, The legend of Taira no Masakado, etc... I think I will write one of them next month.

I know Yotsuya no Kaidan and Taira no Masakado! Never heard of the others before tho. Japanese folklore attracts a lot of love, but only the mainstream ones. :")

Absolutely gorgeous work once more love!! _
The lighting and flow of the image are both so delightful! I love the flames! And I also really in particular love how the shirt reacts so realistically within the water. And as always; that deliciously smooth colouring!!
