Description So it turns out that it's not the tools that are the problem, it's me. I wasn't expecting to just instantly become amazing once I laid my hands on some copics but, jeysus, I need a helluva lot of practice wih them.

Anywho, no idea who this is or what unit he's part of. Up to you if you want to make aomething up

Your clone designs are always awesome.  He looks pretty solid to me, but now you've just got me excited to see even better clone sketches as you get more and more practice with your new tools.

And just for fun, I'll play along with the character bio game.  This trooper's design is perfect for a unit of infantry troopers I wrote into a fan fic that takes place during the siege of Saleucami.  I'll just go ahead and assign his picture here to a character I feature there:

CT-51/04-6718, "Plaz" was a clone sharp shooter in the 33rd Assault and Reconnaissance Regiment.  He served with distinction in a Special Forces operation to liberate the Separatist controlled caldera city of Sagujero during the Siege of Saleucami.  Plaz and three platoons from his regiment were attached to ARC Captain Alpha-26, "Maze's" ground team, and successfully infiltrated the city aboard an experimental stealth CR-25 troop carrier.  From there, his nine man squad (Tibanna Squad), lead by Sgt Cutty, secured an exfil zone for Captain Maze and the commandos of Totten Squad.  Unfortunately, their team was ambushed by a unit of Morgukai Shadow Army clones outside of a power substation.  Plaz escaped the engagement unscathed, but was cut off from the rest of his squad and forced to fall back with Maze and the commandos.  He finished the remainder of the mission with the Special Forces clones, even participating in a pitched battle against Separatist Commander and Jedi renegade Tol Skorr, but didn't learn the fates of his squadmates until the battle was over...

Character backstories are always fun to run with.  I love the bits of mini-fiction that you've attached to some of your drawings.  And shameless self-plugs always make me feel like a tool, but if you do want to read more about the mission mentioned above, I've got the whole story, "The Clone Wars: Containment" up here on DA.  I'd be stoked if you did check it out, mostly because I'm hoping it would give you ideas for drawing a GAR clone trooper vs Morgukai clone scene.  Seeing your interpretation of the Shadow Army Nikto clones would be a dream come true.

I had to look up the Morgukai and I'm not sure how I could improve on their design, their armour seems to have a bit of a ceremonial hint to it. That Cortosis weave armour is pretty cool and those staffs are pretty effective. I don't think I could draw a decent Nikto either, I tried a few different species when I was kicking around some character ideas and I made a mess of the poor fellow.

I read your story and I loved it. I'd read a comic with skorr in it years ago and he was a bastard in that too, you really got his character spot on and the clones were all badass. Those two commando's that fought Ogdai had a pretty brutal time of it and the scene at the end was pretty cool. I liked how they explained the Mando remembrance to Lock.

The Morgukai definitely have a great design.  Their armor has a very Samurai feel to it, and Nikto are just great, fierce looking aliens.  I really loved them as a whole different type of clone army that were worthy opponents for the GAR troopers.  One of my goals in the story was to stay true to their origins while trying to come up with scenes that could believably show a bunch of staff wielding close-quarters fighters being effective against modern style soldiers.  That was something I could picture your style capturing very well too, but I can see how they would be tougher to adapt.

Thanks much for the kind words.  I had no idea you'd already read it and I'm delighted to hear you liked it.  I had a great time pulling two of my favorite areas of Star Wars (Karen Traviss' novels and Ostrander/Duursemma's comics) into one setting.  Mostly I just miss the old Legends EU and wanted to keep playing in that world.  Fortunately, there are a few excellent fan fic authors here on DA doing the same thing, not to mention great artists like yourself creating awesome SW images.

I too miss the EU. So many amazing stories now relegated to "legends" while that cheesy disney crap is official.

Alas.  I suppose I should try to give some of the new EU a chance, but the CG clone wars show drove me away pretty hard.  I did read "Tarkin," but that wasn't much of a point in Disney's favor...

I tried to like rebels but what I saw it was just "bad guys are evil monsters until the good guys need to win then they become bumbling idiots" I'll stick with the legends.

Yeah, even if The Clone Wars hadn't already lost after a few episodes, I don't think I ever would have given Rebels a try.  The promo spots I saw with the little blue haired guy looking ready for business with his energy slighshot were quiet enough warning for me.

And the good thing about Legends material is that there's a bloody lot of it.  Not that every comic and book in its catalog is solid gold by any means, but there are still plenty of gems.  You mentioned having to look up the Morgukai so I can only assume that means you haven't read all of the Ostrander/Duursemma comics.  If that is the case, you should definitely treat yourself.  Some of my favorite Star Wars stories.

It's been years since I read any starwars comics and I was desperate for clone trooper reference material back then so if it didn't have clones in it I wouldn't read it plus where I live has no comic book stores so it was a struggle to find any comics at all. I started collecting the clone wars series and managed to get books 1, 3, 5 and 7. Can't find them anywhere now which is a shame because they were good

That is a shame.  Books 2, 4, 6, 8 and 9 are every bit as good as the ones you mentioned, if not slightly better on balance.  I wish I knew of any good used-book online vendors in the UK, because that's been my go to for old SW books her in the US lately.  I even see the graphic novels and omnibuses on them pretty frequently.  If you do find one, you should definitely search for the Clone Wars Omnibuses too, because those collected everything from the nine graphic novels (plus some other comics) into just three books.

CT-6804 was one of the well known operatives involved in the "Agumenon Moon incident". When a Grand Army Detachment of Scouts specialising in rural warfare arrived at the heavily forested moon, they came under intense fire from Separatist positons amongst the colonies. CT-6804 along with many other troopers had their transports shot down upon arrival, and were scattered across the continent. 250 gunships and transports were lost in the initial assault, along with all walkers, transports and most of the infantry.
CT-6804 managed to assemble two platoons worth of troopers from the wreckage and made their way to a deserted village upon a hilltop. There, hidden amongst the tall trees, they attempted to communicate with the fleet, only to draw large numbers of droid forces to their position.
The ragtag unit held out for two weeks, managing to destroy AATs with scavenged rocket launchers and use droid blasters when their own ran dry. Small units would infiltrate through the enemy encirclement to attack from the rear, several of which 6804 lead personally. The entire hill was stripped of vegetation by the time relief units arrived, to find no less then seven troopers still alive amongst heaps of their own dead and enemy dead. One of which was the still fighting CT-6804.

Thank you. The colours you chose do seem to lend towards a Guerrilla fighter.

Very nice job!

Background-> CT-1765 or more commonly known as "Halo Nut"was a Clone Trooper in the Grand Army of the Republic during the final parts of the war were he was stationed on a forest planet to battle the droid army of the Separatist. Halo Nut was his squad recon man, and would normally go ahead of the group to scout the area, but the one day he didn't was burned into his memory, both metaphorically, and physically. Halo Nut could never look at fire the same way after that.
