A small tip: you can also use wood glue to glue the cream onto the cake. The glue will get transparant after it's completely dried. Add some pastel chalk or whatever to make it look like jam etc.

How do you cut the cake without mixing the colours?

It says in the tutorial to leave it in the fridge for 30min. or overnight for better results

cool. So... How'd it work out?

kiger8kiger In reply to fleetingspirit [2010-11-15 10:42:00 +0000 UTC]
The same as yours. But maybe a bit worse, since I used too much talcum powder so the clay did not stick together that well.
It was my first time using that powder. But in the end it looks just the same as yours, except the layout.

hey, great tutorial,
so is the TLS like glue? what does it do? and is there any alternative or do you really need it?
👍: 0 ⏩: 2
HanaClayWorks In reply to HIDDENintheIVY [2009-06-04 19:14:53 +0000 UTC]
TLS is liquid clay and I'm not sure if there are alternatives... but i'm sure you can still stick the clay together without it. there's a whole section about TLS in my FAQs (link on the front page) if you have any other questions about the stuff.

TLS is translucent liquid sculpey - a liquid polymer. im not sure what you could use as a alternative, but dont worry, i didnt use any TLS the first two times i made this, and they looked nearly the same, but i suppose the TLS would help it keep its shape, and i noticed that when i dont use TLS, after cooking there was gaps and holes in the layers of cake, so the TLS must keep the layers together. hope that helped xD

see that is so awesome! cos its true, i mean i can only get huge 50g blocks of colour, so the ones like fluro green or something i would prob use once so i wouldn't want to buy a heap of it.
= marketing genius!
