Description
So, by request, here is my star tutorial. I find it annoying to make, but I see that there are fellow masochists out there who like to torture themselves with stars!Oh you know I'm kidding. :hugs:
The completed (i.e. baked, painted, glazed) project can be seen here - clickity click click
Sorry for BIG... and LONG... but I couldn't condense it anymore than this without making it completely obtuse. :/

Great tutorial! I was wondering though, would it work if you drew a star on paper, cut it out and lay it on top of the "disc shaped ball of clay" (haha) then cut out the bits in between with an exacto knife? Haven't tried it yet but...

HanaClayWorks In reply to miniate [2009-08-30 16:48:39 +0000 UTC]
i tried that
the only problem that i have is that the clay would then be really thin and the edges aren't smooth. they'd just look like a cookie-cutter piece of clay, if that makes sense, and i like my stars to look squishy. hehe

Which material did you use for the stars?
And it gets hard?
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
HanaClayWorks In reply to Miss-Dot [2008-02-21 16:40:54 +0000 UTC]
just paper. :3 they can be made hard by either dipping in resin or just many many many layers of sealing stuffs.

How do you push in the eye hook without squishing everything?
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
HanaClayWorks In reply to chaskitty [2007-10-10 06:50:11 +0000 UTC]
magic!~ xD lol i'm jk.
it takes some practice, to tell you the honest truth... and there's really no "right" way to do it. if you're having problems with getting the hook in without mashing the star into a ball again, it's probably because the clay is still too soft from being worked so much. try letting the star sit a bit until it's firm before pushing the pin in (this could take a few hours... or you can stick it in the fridge for 10-20 min). let me know if you're still having trouble after try this out.

Sweet!! I've been wondering how to make stars out of clay. Kind of a pain in the rear.. but I'll try this technique.

any technique that doesn't involve a star-shaped cutter is a pain in the rear.
