Description
Broken StringsRobert Tracy
Dry-brush Watercolor
17 x 12"
1989
Something my brother made for me. He made some 20 violins before his suicide in 1990. Hence, the title is somewhat personal.
I had uploaded this once before working from a scanned photo of this painting. Now I got access to my original and photographed it. This is much clearer and truer to color.

Hi Hank1. This is a very powerful image. I wonder if you would allow me to use it on my website (with a credit and a Tweet), and possibly also incorporate it into a kindle book cover image (not sure about this one yet). Thanks, and keep up the great work.
Regards,
Laurel

Don't know how to stop it. The image is here. Still, would like to see your website and how you would use it. As for a book, might be a copyright issue--I'll look into it.
Thanks for your comment.

Yes. More to my brother than making violins as well as he did that. A very fine Romantic poet.

The realism of this painting is so breathtaking. It's just so ridiculously gorgeous. I really love the lighting and warm colors. I also find violins to be such lovely, graceful instruments, my best friend's grandfather makes them and it's so wonderful to just spend time looking at all of them. I'm very sorry to hear about your brother though, may he rest in peace.

This piece is full of emotion for me. First, I love the violin as you know, and second I know how you loved your brother. His work was incredible and I am sure, as you, he would have became a master at his craft if he had been given more time. This picture speaks to me of solitude. It makes me feel lonely, just like your brother felt. Knowing all I know and feeling all I feel, it cannot mask the beauty of this piece. What I love the most about it is the angle at which the violin hangs to creat such an abstraract-like shadow. To me, it takes this simple work into extraoridnary. Sometimes it is all in the "composition" and so it is with this for me.

Now I see what you meant with that your works had't much to do with modernism, as I called it. This is a beautiful and interesting work with lightning, and the colours and everything is inviting, especially to those who play music!

Do you play music? What instrument(s)?
Thank you for your comments.

Yes, I play the piano, and I love it! I'm in phase where I'm suppposed to give priority to my studies, and yet I'm still practicing almost daily and trying to learn new songs. It's a passion. I'd also like to play cello but I don't think that'll come soon.

FIRST OF ALL, YOU KNOW I LOVE THE VIOLIN AND PLAYED IT FOR A NUMBER OF YEARS. THIS REALLY TOUCHES MY HEART. IT IS A PICTURE OF A VIOLIN, BUT SYMBOLIC OF A BROKEN LIFE. MY HEART ACHES FOR YOUR LOSS, BUT I REJOYCE IN THIS WONDERFUL TRIBUTE TO YOUR BROTHER AND THE GREAT GIFT HE HAD. HE WOULD LOVE IT AND REJOYCE IN THE GREAT GIFT YOU HAVE.
THANK YOU FOR SHARING SO MUCH OF YOUR INNERSELF IN SUCH A BEAUTIFUL PIECE.
LOL, T

Thank you.
By the way it's not a photo. It's a watercolor painting.

Kate,
Thank you very much.
I notice my painting is the only painting among photos at your feature. You do know it's a watercolor, not a photograph.
Thanks again,
Robert

Oh yes, I know it's a painting.
I'm more of a photographer myself, so I tend to feature photography in my journals, but I took up painting last fall and have since gained a new appreciation of all the work that goes into a good painting. This piece especially struck my eye recently, not only because you captured the light perfectly, but because I actually did a similar composition of my viola awhile back.
Also, I like your da Vinci quote. So very true.

Thank you very much.
I see you've drawn my top favorite composer, Rachmaninov. [link]
And so many of my favorite pianists, and other favorite composers of mine. All well done.

Outstanding piece. As beautiful as the violin is, the well rendered shadow is just as lovely.
