Tang is a sugared, fruit-flavored, uncarbonated soft drink from America. The original orange flavored Tang was formulated by General Foods Corporation in 1957 and first marketed (in powdered form) in 1959. It was initially intended as a breakfast drink, but sales were poor until NASA began using it on Gemini flights in 1965. For a decade it was associated with the U.S. manned spaceflight program by many consumers.

My wife worked for General Foods for 15 years, until the union saw that it was better to do their part in shutting down the local plant in favor of what? I have no love for a union whose only purpose is to kill people's jobs. So, the General Foods jobs in our town went to Dover Delaware whose plant didn't have a destructive union. My wife has never forgiven that union, or any union for the damage they do.

Nevertheless, I was able to capture for all time one of the products that General Foods, along with NASA, created to make so happy a drink for the whole world.

So, there's my politics along with a painting that has no political theme at all.

Come on Victor! Don't be making me laugh out loud. I'm not good at laughing or smiling, but your "Poon Tang rocks just as hard" is almost too much.

Your still life works are so awesome and meticulously well rendered. I'm so amazed that you are self taught

In my opinion one must be self-taught. He learns from looking at the great Masters. He asks himself: "how did this great artist accomplish this". Then he applies his self-taught answers to his own values and interests. My teachers are long gone. The way to see light in darkness--Rembrandt. The way to make my canvas smooth as glass--Vermeer. And so many other teachers who gave me so much after they were gone.

Thank you.

And you don't need a living teacher.

I'm so happy we have this conversation, for it will boost my self esteem. I always think I can never be good like people who have gone through art school. You are the living proof that self taught people can do well too and if not great like you

This is a wonderful still life. I still love tang with all of my damn heart. Even being 19 I'm still craving a nice glass of tang on a hot summer day.
This painting just makes my mouth water. The tang...it looks so real. I swear.

Bob,

Thanks. We were just moving in to a new apartment and had stuff thrown on the refrigerator. That's how it came about.

Maybe I'll have to do some moving pictures, as this one turned out so well.

This is such a stunning piece on many levels, and a wonderful blending of Dutch Baroque still-life and Pop Art painting (the open fridge, curtain "drapery," and "Tang" instead of wine). Wonderfully thought out and an exemplary execution.

Thank you very much. You see all I intended. Yes, insfluenced by the Dutch Masters. Pop Art? Now you mention it, I see it.

You're welcome. hank1's "Tang" fits rather nicely next to Andy Warhol's "Coca-Cola bottles," I think.

I remember when Tang came out during the late 90's. I think it's still around in the stores. It's some awesoem stuff. It's success is simular to Gatoraide (spelling?). Most aweosme painting! It almost looks like a old photo. (Meant as a compliment.)
