Description
Drawn earlier today. A concept thingie for a new comic idea, inspired by my 'Mozart Goes Shoppin'" deviation (submitted earlier).I mentioned in my latest journal that a cartoon about the classical composers somehow getting transported into modern times'd be funny...or something like that....
Anyhow, people really liked the idea. So I am gonna give 'er a go. This is the first ever brainstorm for such a project. I think it could be pretty fun. I have read some about these guys' personalities, so that's why I chose this particular bunch.
I'm excited!

no matter how partial you are to Felix, and try to make him appear as a perfect man, people will always prefer the spontanious, funny genious Mozart

Actually, Wolfie's the most popular, Lud is second and Freddie's third. Felix 4, Joe 5. I did a survey awhile back. Wolfie won by a landslide.
I made Felix like that because, hey. I love the guy. Maybe even have a little crush... I admit it, he's my fave) but making him the "sweet one" just seemed to fit. They all are distinct (which is one reason I chose who I chose).
Wolfie's the crazy one, Lud's the mean one, Freddie's the wimp, and Joe's the "unofficial leader" (although he never deemed himself the leader). He's kind of like the father figure.
I try not to favor Felix (but it's kind of a weakness). I do, however, try to show that they are all human too and have more sides to their personalities than being crazy, sweet, mean, wimpy or whatever. I am hoping as the story progresses that they will all become more well-rounded.

That is the funniest shit ever!! I only read the first two lines and i already loved it! I will be honest, i am going through a very tough depression right now, but this one lifted my spirit a bit. Kinda reminds me of "Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure". You know what they say "Party On Dudes"!!!!!!

Man, yes. Bill and Ted is one of my favorite movies, and it was a big inspiration for this. Add a little Back to the Future and Time Bandits to the mix, and yeeah. I love time travel movies...
Glad to hear it lifted your spirits. Man, I deal with depression some myself, so it's really good to hear that my stuff can kind of create a diversion.
Hope you get out of yer funk soon!

This is really cool. It's nice to see how it all started. I love the bits about their personalities. Are their cartoon version personalities based off of what you read about them?

Yeah pretty much! These five are the ones I know the most about (have read the most on) so that's actually part of the reason I chose them. Gotta love them quirky musician personalities!

Is Wolfgang Terry Lee's long-lost grandfather? They should SO meet up! I can see the Composers meeting the Ants in some bizzare cross-over. That would so rule!

That would rule. I figured they would have to meet at some point
I thougt the exact same thing--that Mozart was like an 18th century Terry Lee...lol!

Beethoven would have to get that Beethoven t-shirt. Could you see him dealing with the welfare system when he'd been kicked out of the last apartment that would put up with him? Once they find out how much it costs today to keep up those old clothing, they'd hock it in a moment -- or sell it to museums to get some ready cash. They're all gonna love zippers (although there's the opportunity for the obvious crotch humor there).

Haha. True. And yeah, I can see Beeth in a tee, totally. Or even boxers and nothing but (I have read that he often composed in nothing but his bvds). Heh. I never thought about the upkeep of the clothing either; it'd most likely have to be dry cleaned...but since it is just a cartoon, I think I could bypass that little detail. However, it does open up some good fodder for possible story arcs. Like...they go to the laundromat, try to wash their clothes, they get ruined...etc... hmmmm.

The ultimate secret of totally fun writing:
The weird + the mundane = madness, hilarity, tragedy, confusion, conflict!
Think what would happen to their bowels the first time they ate our food? They have to develop a whole new gut culture -- and they are totally un-used to synthetic toxins. Gonna be VERY sick for a while.
And Mozart trying to iron lace.... trying to figure out the iron in the first place. Exlaining the internal combustion engine.... amazed that Mob Rule (Democracy) actually has governments now! Good heavens, what happened to the emperor?

Sweet! They look just like the real thing, only less dead and more cartoony. I love how they may be in modern times, but they're still dressed in their period clothes.
This is gonna rock.

Yeah, I wondered whether to make 'em dress 21st century or stay like they were. I think a couple of 'em (Brahms, maybe Mozart) would totally dig a t-shirt and jeans now and then though. Beethoven'd be perfectly happy toolin' around in boxers. But, I like drawing 17th-19th century garb a lot, so I think I'll keep 'em like they are.
I hope it rocks!

I need to see that movie.
So, this must be a pretty good hook, eh? Awesomeness. I am already dreaming up storylines.
Hey, I was gonna ask your (and others on here) opinion about the title. Is "The Composers" cool, or lame? Whaddya think? I couldn't think of anything else...

Looks like an interesting concept. Kinda like that kiss 40k comic that pops onto the front page from time to time. I wonder what the real composers think of something like this.

Rollin over in their graves, probably. Although I can see Mozart finding it mildly amusing...maybe. And Brahms. I know he'd dig cheeseburgers. He liked his food. A LOT.
